'Proven' was composed by Kevin Houben on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Royal Wind Band 'De Volksvreugd'meaning ' People's Joy' in 2021.As its name suggests the musical band of the West Flemish village , municipality of Poperinge (B), had to bring joy againto the people. At that time there was still a striking industry of woodworkers, including that of slat splitters and hoop cutters.Moreover the cultivation of hops, necessary for the brewing of beer, remained important. Shortly after World War I theassociation was founded in the cellars of the brewer- mayor.Soon the joy was not only experienced by its listeners but also by its members. Already from its foundation onwards, thecandidate musicians flocked in and still nowadays 'De Volksvreugd' can take pride in having more than 100 members in itsyouth orchestra, having a drum band, an ambiance band and a wind band. Participation in tattoo and competitions ensuresan excellent musical level. Moreover musicians of all ages feel like family. For the previous 100 years 'De Volksvreugd' has'proven' to bring joy to the people and by the people. The chant 'Long live the Volksvreugd/ People's Joy' clearly provesits popularity.This energetic and festive composition has a very recognizable and powerful introduction, after which each musician ischallenged concerning technique, rhythm and ensemble playing. Also the magnificent melodic part, which Houben iswell-known for, is very melodious and intimate followed by a lyrical highlight to culminate into an energetic and rhythmicalfinal. Elemento chimico della Tavola Periodica degli Elementi, lo Xenon fa parte del gruppo dei Gas Nobili. incolore, inodore e decisamente pi pesante dell'aria. In un tubo riempito di gas, emette una luce molto intensa quando eccitato con una scarica elettrica, per cui viene utilizzato per la realizzazione di lampade e dispositivi luminosi. Il brano, diviso in sette sezioni che si susseguono senza soluzione di continuit, descrive un viaggio immaginario che percorre diametralmente l'interno di un atomo di xenon. La prima sezione (On the Edge of Nowhere), partendo dal presupposto che l'atomo una struttura al 99,9% vuota, descrive una realt non solo impercepibile dall'occhio umano ma anche non facilmente razionalizzabile, cos la sottile linea che separa il "nulla" dalla materia visibile rappresentata da un assolo di sax contralto. La seconda e la sesta sezione (Electrons) descrivono la nuvola di elettroni che turbina vorticosamente attorno al nucleo dell'atomo. I temi musicali qui si rincorrono e si scontrano; la ritmica delle percussioni, perlopi metalliche, simula questo moto perpetuo. La terza e la quinta sezione (Luminescence) descrivono la zona di quiete tra gli elettroni e il nucleo. Tutto avvolto da una luce bianca, simile a quella del sole; un momento di stasi, ma solo apparente: la calma durer poco. La sezione centrale (Core) il nucleo del brano. La parte pi interna dell'atomo anche la pi densa: percussioni martellanti, riff solidi, armonie sature, vogliono rappresentare la sua natura stabile e dinamica al tempo stesso. Infine, l'ultima sezione (On the Edge of Everything) rappresenta la conclusione del viaggio: l'uscita al di fuori dall'atomo di xenon con la consapevolezza, stavolta, che la materia visibile soltanto la miliardesima parte della realt, tutto il resto energia. L'assolo di sax, che riappare nelle ultime battute del brano, assume ora un diverso significato: cos' "nulla" e cos' "tutto"? La fine di questo viaggio immaginario, veramente una fine? Xenon la terza composizione della serie che l'autore sta dedicando ai Gas Nobili.

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was a painter, sculptor, inventor, philosopher and researcher. He is renowned as the original 'Renaissance Man'. 'I will preserve the memory of myself in the minds of others' was one of his maxims. Among his most famous works of art are the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper and the Vitruvian Man. He left an extensive collection of handwritten documents in his notebooks. These books, known as codices, survive in various volumes such as the Codex Atlanticus, Codex Madrid, Codex Trivulzianus etc.). They include sketches of ground-breaking inventions as well as studies and commentaries which span the gamut of human study. The left-handed da Vinci wrote the texts in mirror writing. Through wars and other upheavals, the documents were scattered throughout Europe and much of his work disappeared. Leonardo da Vinci wanted to leave a kind of encyclopaedia for posterity and, although it is estimated that up to 80% of his manuscripts were lost, some 6,000 individual documents survive to this day, the contents of which in many cases were only understood centuries later.

This version was commissioned by The Royal Norwegian Navy Band in 2002 and re-edited in 2018.
