£245.50Abstractions 2 - Marcel Peeters
With this composition I have tried to reproduce, in an abstract way, the different aspects of the actual life. One will discover alternatively spiritual and secular aspects - the never ceasing boisterous agitation, the electronically disturbed society and, from time to time, the modern romanticism of the end of the twentieth century. I want to express my gratitude to the conductor and the musicians for their enthusiasm and technical dexterity which any performance of this composition fully requires.Marcel Peeters

£252.10Rhapsodie Norvegienne Nr.2 - Johan Halvorsen
This arrangement was written for Dragefjellets Musikkorps Bergen for their performance at the Norwegian Wind Band Championships in 2019.The original orchestral work is one of our country's greatest national works for symphony orchestra. It combines Norwegian folk music with the symphonic tradition, but on a slightly different way than Edvard Grieg.Compared to the original score, I have made parts of the work more chamber-music like by making the instrumentation a bit thinner. By doing this, I hope the span in dynamics will benefit the tutti sections as well. Unlike the symphony orchestra, concert bands do not have the large string section to enrich the soundscape.- Svein H. Giske -

Downshifting - Dan Welcher
Commissioned by a consortium of 20 high school and university bands coordinated by Scott Hanna of the University of Texas at Austin, Downshifting is inspired by Welcher's joy of bicycle riding. Welcher explains in the program note: When I decided to write a piece for band that was basically entertaining and uplifting, it made perfect sense to call it Downshifting... With three gears on the front sprocket and seven on the rear, it's possible to keep one's legs going at a constant speed (for me, q = 126) while the bike itself may be moving very slowly or very quickly. I determined to capitalize on this in writing Downshifting, which keeps the same mathematical inner pulse,'shifting' (with a ratchet) as the terrain changes.
