"Some kind of Dj Vu" is a continuation of the piece "Time for Celebration", written for Sreide & Sandsli Skolekorps's (SSS) Junior Band in 2015.The theme and motif is based on the band's initials "SSS", three similar tones (translated to the sheet music).The motif is played either separately as a signal, or as the beginning of the main melody.The title refers to the term 'Dj Vu', which is a feeling of having experienced something in the past (which one actually experiences for the first time).In this case, it's the musical and thematic reference to "Time for Celebration" that appears as the "Dj Vu" experience.

A lovely melody with great expressions.Our Last Summer" is a song by the Swedish pop group ABBA from their seventh studio album, "Super Trouper," released in 1980. The song is indeed featured in the musical "Mamma Mia!", a little bit shortened and with small changes in the lyrics. The musical premiered in London's West End in 1999 and is a duet performed by the characters Harry Bright and Donna Sheridan, reflecting on their past romance during a summer spent in Paris.The song is primarily sung by Bjrn Ulvaeus, with backing vocals provided by Agnetha Fltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, the female members of ABBA. Their harmonies contribute to the song's nostalgic and wistful atmosphere. The lyrics vividly describe the memories of the summer spent together, including scenes of walking along the Seine River in Paris and listening to French songs. The song also touches on the passage of time and the realization that the summer romance has ended.While not released as an official single in most countries, "Our Last Summer" still received considerable airplay and became a fan favorite. "Watch What Happens" is taken from the film score of "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg," composed by Michel Legrand in 1964. The music was nominated for a Grammy that same year, and the film itself won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes International Film Festival.This arrangement was written for Kampen Janitsjarorkester, a band conducted by Thingns for more than 30 years. They performed it at both indoor and outdoor concerts. Multiple percussion parts beyond the drum set are specifically designed for outdoor use and marching setups.

"Centennium" was written for Lillestrm Skolekorps and their conductor Anders H. Halvorsen on the occasion of the band's centennial anniversary in 2023.The piece is based on a melodic theme that changes character, tempo, time signatures and harmony throughout the work, surrounded by train signals.Lillestrm got its train station as early as 1854, as part of the "Hovedbanen" from Oslo to Eidsvoll, Norway's first railway line. For many, the city of Lillestrm is known as a "train city," and thus the train signals are meant not only to illustrate the city's identity but also to symbolize the band's journey through its first 100 years.

The piece was commissioned by the Norwegian Band Federation Hordaland and conductor Arvid Anthun for the 40th anniversary of Hordaland Youth Band in 2021. The piece is dedicated to Arvid Anthun.Several of our collaborations have focused on arranging and performing Norwegian folk music. This includes projects such as the one Manger Musikklag undertook in the late 90s, concerts, and recording sessions with Jlster Musikklag alongside the fiddler Sigmund Eiks, and now, for the anniversary concert of Hordaland Youth Band.Arvid desired folk music in a modern style. We discussed, among other things, Valter Aamodt's "Hordarapsodi," and he mentioned my Norwegian Dance, a funky piece where I incorporate a folk tune as a crucial element. Aamodt uses the melody "Eg rodde meg ut," or "Strilevise," as it is also known, in his rhapsody.The concept for Strilefunk was therefore to utilize one of the melodies Aamodt had used and additionally draw on the rhythmic experiences that we, as modern band musicians, bring from other genres.Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen
