    Mount Olympus - Filip Ceunen

Mount Olympus was commissioned by the Groot Genker Orkest from Genk (Belgium) on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. In the context of this composition, Mount Olympus, the home of the Greek gods, can be seen as a reference to the Zwarte Berg (Black Mountain) in Genk, that, with its rolling hills and lush nature, is also a place of inspiration and contemplation - which prompted the composer to write this attractive work, in which various facets of the mythological mountain Olympus are represented.

    Survivors - Thierry Deleruyelle

Survivors is a concert march that is both luminous and tuneful. The brilliance of the brass, combined with the expressiveness of the woodwinds, gives this work a clear modernity. It was composed for and dedicated to those wounded in the army, paying tribute to their courage, resilience, and inner strength. Through a musical style rich in emotion and power, this work celebrates the "survivors" - those who, despite the hardships of war and injury, continue to pick themselves up, overcome adversity, and find within themselves an unshakeable determination. Survivors embodies both the enormity of the struggle and the hope of reconstruction, a march for those who have been wounded but who, through their courage, have become survivors. This concert march was commissioned by the French Army bands on the initiative of their musical director, Maurice Marc.

Mitt hjerte er ditt - Geir Holmsen

"Mitt hjerte er ditt" ("My Heart is Yours") is primarily known with this Norwegian lyrics and melody from Maj Britt Andersen's recording of the song, first released in 1992. Andersen's husband, Geir Holmsen, composed the new music for this recording, a version that has since been performed by numerous other artists, including Anna of the North on "Hver gang vi mtes" in 2022.The lyrics are Alf Prysen's Norwegian translation of Nils Ferlin's Swedish text, originally written to a Swedish folk tune. This is an arrangement written for a vocal soloist and wind orchestra, but it can also be played with instrumental soloists or purely instrumentally. The song has only two verses, so the middle section of this arrangement is an orchestral verse where the melody begins in the lower instruments.

    Moment - Alex Shapiro

Pensive and emotional, the unusual, textural music of MOMENT offers reflection and stillness in an often frenetic world. Repeating notes and haunting, lyrical lines give musicians the opportunity to explore expression through subtlety. Evocative sounds conjure fleeting, contrasting images, as the wind band creates a seamless fabric woven from the union of their instruments, their chant-like voices, and the ghostly echoes of a wistful accompaniment soundtrack. What are the moments that have moved you? To perform the piece, you'll need an audio system capable of playing the prerecorded audio tracks from a laptop computer via a small digital audio interface connected to an audio mixer. Download information is provided in the printed piece.

The Year 1941 - Serge Prokofieff

The Year 1941 was composed during the second World War. Prokofiev, along with other composers, was evacuated to the Caucasus when Germany started attacking the Soviet Union in 1941. It was under such circumstances that Prokofiev began work on this symphonic suite. He was working on his epic opera War and Peace and the String Quartet No. 2 at the same time. It is an orchestral suite in three movements, a poignant and evocative musical depiction of a tumultuous period in history. The composer described these three movements as follows: I. In Battle - "a scene of heated battle, heard by the audience sometimes as though far away and sometimes as though on the actual battlefield."II. At Night - "a poetic night scene, disturbed by the tension of impending conflict. III. For the Brotherhood of Man - "a triumphant lyrical hymn to victory and the brotherhood of peoples."
