Starsleet - Aslak Dørum
Stjernesludd is a hit single from the popular Norwegian band DumDum Boys. The song-writer Aslak Drum is the bass-player in the band. It was recorded in 1997, and it has been a well know radio-hit ever since. The lyrics are set in a dark tone, andthey tell the story of a gloomy and "black and white" feeling in the cold weather before Christmas. "But when the winter comes, we can make angels in the snow..." In 2010, Norwegian singer Kurt Nilsen accompanied by The Norwegian RadioOrchestra recorded it for their CD "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas".If performed with Tenor Sax soloist, the first time bracket can be omitted.

Psalm for Band is a piece constructed from a single germinating harmonic idea. There are three distinct sections - a sustained chordal mood, a forward moving chorale, followed by a Paean culmination of the materials. Extensive use is made of separate choirs of instruments supported by thematic rhythms in the tenor and bass drums. Psalm was selected for performance at the CBDNA Convention in December 1952 as one of the eight most outstanding compositions for band written in the previous several years. Theodore Presser Company editor Daniel Dorff, on the new Centennial Edition, explains, "The 1954 Elkan-Vogel publication had a full score in a calligrapher's hand that was quiteaccurate, and a set of parts that was problematic in readability and accuracy. The present 2015 edition is faithful to and compatible with the original published score, with carefully and cleanly prepared parts bearing cues, easy page turns, and individual parts for each player."

Ave Maria, an excerpt from the Missa Solemnis, was written by Andr Waignein at the request of the Aosta Valley Regional Council, in Italy. Missa Solemnis contains all the musical parts that are used to accompany liturgical rites. However, the composer was keen to include an Ave Maria in memory of his mother, who was a very religious person and especially revered the Virgin Mary.This Ave Maria reveals a shimmering melody with very discreet orchestral support that allows the vocal or instrumental soloist to express their emotions through exceedingly generous musical phrases. Divertimento is an outstanding composition by Roger Boutry for Alto Saxophone and Wind Orchestra. This great work is really nice to play and will enlighten the audience. The Orchestracomposition required is: 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Bassoons, 2 small Clarinets, Clarinet I, Clarinet II, 1 Bass Clarinet, 2 Alto Saxophones, 2 Tenor Saxophones, 1 Baritone Saxophone, 4 Horns, 4 Bb or C Trumpets, 4 Trombone or 3Trombone and an Euphonium, 1 Bb or C Bass, 1 Double Bass, 1 Harp, Timpani, Drum and a Celesta. It is divided into three parts: I. "Allegro ma non troppo", is strongly rhythmic and syncopated.Itincludes a Cadenza by the Solo Saxophone and is written as a tribute to Jazz music. II. "Andante", also includes a Cadenza by the Solo Saxophone but at the end of the section. It is reminiscent of slowerblues ballads. III. This part features few sections by the Solo Saxophone but is specially highlighted its ending, in a bright and fast finale. This volume features the score and parts for all theinstruments. Born in France in 1932, Roger Boutry received numerous prizes, including those for Piano, Composition and Conducting. He received the Grand Prix de Rome in 1954. His career was quite successful,alternating between Harmony professor, composer and conductor. He also received numerous prizes for his incredible compositions.
