'Mixed Bag' stands midway between a collection and a hotchpotch. It is a colourful compilation of four completely different pieces, each with its own specific character. The first part is called 'Tanguillo' : as its name suggests, this Spanish dance is related to the Tango. In the next part, 'Maybe next time ....' a repeated bass line (Passacaglia) can be heard, first solo, but thereafter gradually the other instruments join in. The third part forms a huge contrast did the former part have a Baroque atmosphere, 'Rock Hard' seems to have come directly from the Rock 'n Roll era, reminding us of stars such as Bill Haley and Elvis Presley. The finale is acheerful, inciting movement called 'Gypsy Dance'.

A 25 minute work exploring musical fusion on multiple levels through the contrast of symphonic winds to a jazz trio (piano, bass, drums). Both groups are independent at times followed by a merge into a single unique musical force. The alto saxophone soloist stands as the uniting musical element between the two groups. The omnipresent and uniting musical force is the tango and, in particular, the works of Astor Piazzolla. Dance Suite comprises three dances - Femme Fatale (a tango), Midnight Wish (a rumba) and Wherever I look (a Mambo). The first two movements are fairly straightforward but the mambo is a little more difficult and also requires 4 rather than three trumpets - the fourth part being included in the first trumpet part in the complete suite. The music works best with a string bass or a bass guitar but the bass line is fully cued in the tuba part. Each of the movements is also available separately.Duration: 11.00
