Famous musicologist Yuji Numano identified an interesting relationship between classical and film music. Film music is like a second child of 19th century classical music (the first child being 20th century modern music). Although they have a parent-child relationship, there are still major differences."The basic `form' is different. In the history of classical music art forms, there is a continuing dispute on how to convey a story only through music. On the other hand, as a part of motion pictures, film music at times has difficulty being an autonomous art form separate from the visual media. Indeed, film scores alone can lack musical substance. In the sense of acoustical effectiveness, film scoring has absorbed the total aspect of modern and classical music. Yet, there is still a huge distinction from classical music regarding recognizing film music as a standard art form."This Selections from "KIKI'S Delivery Service" is my seventh arrangement of Joe Hisaishi's works. They are either in medley or suite styles. It might be an exaggeration, however, to cite back to Mr. Numano, I have attempted to compensate for the lack of substance in film music by creating an art form more like classical music. Medley should not be about cherry-picking the best bits. I prefer that performers consider the significance of the work's overall structure.It has been 20 years since the premier of the feature animation film "KIKI'S Delivery Service" based on Eiko Kadono's literature for children. Numerous romantic melodies by Joe Hisaishi are used for many occasions and are still very popular. In this arrangement, I have made a medley from the following scenes:1. A Town with an Ocean View2. Starting the Job3. Heartbroken Kiki4. A Gust5. DeparturePlease note that the 4th scene A Gust comes from the "image album" prior to the soundtrack production and is not used in the actual movie.(Kazuhiro Morita, 2008)

A short, two-movement symphony by the masterful David Maslanka, that demonstrates once again the rich possibilities of the wind band in the hands of a composer who understands the creative potential of the medium. The slow and richly scored opening movement makes especially fine use of an expanded percussion section, triadic harmony and melodies with the flavor of an incantation. The second movement is a driving Allegro with a stern, striding C minor theme that dominates the movement until the coda, which ends the piece with a slow, heaven-storming chorale. Despite the title (from The Lord's Prayer), the composer claims a Buddhist inspiration for his piece.

In particular, the animated group dance scene in the subway made a huge impact on the viewers and distinguished Michael's image. As the video depicts, "bad" in this song's lyrics indicate the kicking, cool unruly living on thestreets. As the opening number, Bad strikes out a course of slight-but-right edginess with its dynamically groovy arrangement that underscores the electric funk in the original tune. The first theme of Slava! is a vaudevillian razz-ma-tazz tune filled with side-slipping modulations and sliding trombones. The second theme is a canon, and after a brief development section, the two themes recur in reverse order. Near the end, they are combined with a quotation (proclaimed by the ubiquitous trombones) from the Coronation Scene of Moussorgsky's 'Boris Goudonov', where the chorus sings the Russian word slava!, meaning, glory! In this way, the composer is paying homage to his friend Mistislav Rostropovich, called 'Slava' by his friends and to whom the overture is fondly dedicated. The overture was written to celebrateRostropovich's inauguration as music director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., in 1977. Leonard Bernstein, the son of a Russian immigrant, was born near Boston, Mass., and studied composition at Harvard. Called 'an authentic American hero, an arts hero,' Bernstein had a distinguished career as composer and conductor. - James Huff

This melodic hymn begins with a lyrical melody, handled by various instrument groups. After a gradual build, a first climax is reached, in which the brass instruments give full vent to their glorious sound in jubilation. The main theme is taken up once more, sounding now as a kind of universal gratitude.
