Bach who used examples of Albinoni's music in his teaching, and also used themes written by Albinoni as the basis for some of his own pieces.Elegy for Albinoni, a beautiful memorial piece in honor of this musical master, uses a romantic tone to set the stage for a theme based on one of Albinoni's violin sonatas. The musical South Pacific from 1949 is one of the many successful theatre-productions by composer Richard Rodgers (1902 - 1979) which was developed in collaboration with lyricist Oscar Hammerstein. The association of this couple also resulted in famous musicals such as Oklahoma, The King And I, Flower Drum Song and The Sound Of Music. These productions, initially conceived for Broadway were soon made into movie-productions and shown all over the world. This has contributed to a considerable degree to make Rodgers' music of everlasting value.South Pacific is set - as may be gathered from the title - on an island in the Pacific Ocean. It is there that the planter Emil de Becque, who has left France, falls in love with Nellie Forbush, a nurse in the U.S. Navy, statione on the island during the raging World War II.After learning the truth about Emil's obscure past (he has comitted murder in his homecountry and he is the father of two children running loose on the island) Nellie starts to doubt the sincerity of their relationship.In the song This Nearly Was Mine, Emil expresses his misgivings on the outcome of their relationship.

Funeral March of a Marionette was composed in 1872 as part of Charles Gonoud's Suite Burlesque for piano. This suite was intended as a parody of the music critic, Henry Chorley. When he had finished composing the piece, Gonoud decided to keep only the funeral march. This march has been recorded countless times, one of the first being with John Philip Sousa's famous band. The piece is most well known from its use as the theme music to the television program Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Beethoven's York'scher Marsch is one of a collection of three tattoos (WoO 18-20) and has had a chequered history, to say the least. There are several autograph copies for different instrumentations, dedicated to different archdukes who were commanders of various regiments of the army including the Prussian regiment called Marsch des Yorkschen Corps, which is how its current title arose. Philip Sparke's arrangement enables a march by this major classical composer to be enjoyed by concert bands.
