Platte River Run - Larry MacTaggart

Commissioned by the Fremont, Nebraska High School Band, this work is subtitled: "A Nebraska Overture." It is a descriptive work depicting the Platte River from its quiet origins in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, which then winds across the rolling Nebraska landscape. There is a spirited pioneer theme depicting the courageous Americans who 150 years ago paved the way west by blazing the Oregon and Mormon Trails along the Platte River.

White River Ballad - David Gorham

It is easy to imagine the quiet, beautiful river, with its great trees and lush vegetation, flowing downstream. This music depicts a fascinating journey, at times gaining momentum as the stream twists through the various bends, and increasing or decreasing in speed as the river channel gets deeper or shallower, or gets wider or narrower. A beautiful, romantic journey that eventually ends as serenely as it began.

Along the River - Hermann Pallhuber

Along the River was commissioned by the Wind Band Kundl in Austria to commemorate its 225th anniversary of making music and spreading joy! To add a personal touch to this composition, Hermann Pallhuber drew inspiration from the Kundler-Klamm canyon. The sights and sounds of nature particularly inspires him: the roar of the water winding its way through the canyon or the sun rising behind the mountain peaks. Breath-taking musical images will captivate your audience. All the movements in Along the River will challenge your band but reward them with a fulfilling musical journey.

River of the Ancients - Michael Sweeney

For thousands of years, amid turmoil and grandeur, the Nile River has remained a stable and life-giving presence in the land of Egypt. Michael Sweeney hints at sounds from these ancient times as he depicts dances of celebration, awe-inspiring pyramids, invasions and conquest over foreign armies. Brief solos with delicate accompaniments counterbalance bold themes and powerful percussion statements in this substantial work for young bands. An element of rhythmic vitality is pervasive throughout, representing the steady and constant flow of this mighty river of life.

The River and the Rock (The Tale of a City) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Shaffer, David

The River and the Rock depicts the rich history of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, settled in 1735. Each short movement paints a musical picture of the city's history, opening with "Beginnings," depicting a frontier that was settled very slowly as hostilities between England and France encouraged Indian bounty hunters to attack isolated garrisons in the region. "Patriots" suggests the city's call to arms throughout history. "Prosperity" visits the industrial revolution and the city's rapid growth at the turn of the 20th century. Movement IV and V, "Decline" and "Revival," offer a musical insight into the city's decline throughout the 20th century and rebirth in the 21st century. Exciting and emotional, "The River and the Rock" merges history and music into a setting that your students will enjoy preparing. Excellent selection for festivals and contests! Duration: 6.15

Red River (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

Red River is a piece full of raw energy. The title is about the feeling engendered by the name rather than a reference to a specific place. In the composer's mind it is a river coloured red by the dust of the earth in a hot, sun-drenched landscape. Full of fiery rhythmic drive and syncopation carried along by Latin percussion, performers will enjoy the vigour and verve of the music. Duration: 4.20
