The Singing River (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Vinson, Johnnie

In the Shoals region of northwest Alabama, the Tennessee River is often referred to as "the singing river," a term originating with the Yuchi tribe of Native Americans. A primary "river theme" is stated from which a series of variants creates a fascinating and appealing musical tapestry.Duration: 5:45

River Trail Expedition (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sheldon, Robert

Written for the Streator High School Band in Illinois, River Trail Expedition is named for the Hopalong Cassidy River Trail that winds along the banks of the Vermilion River. The trail borrows its name from the Hopalong Cassidy series of books, written by Streator native Clarence E. Mulford. This concert overture has an energetic drive which is enhanced by punctuated rhythms and edgy dissonances that contrast with the lyrical and tuneful melodies found throughout the piece. River Songs (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wagner, Douglas E.

Few young people live closer together than do band members, as they work together, laugh together and cry together through the years of their involvement in musical activities. It is sad indeed when death strikes. River Songs was commissioned to commemorate the lives of two such young musicians (one white and one African-American). These two appropriate works, "Deep River," and "Shall We Gather at the River," were chosen as witness to our common bonds in this life and beyond.Duration: 4.00

River Valley Sketches - Matthew Donnelly

River Valley Sketches was written as a short musical depiction of the composer's hometown and the river that runs through it. The inspiration for some of the melodic and rhythmic material comes from the Scottish River Nith and has that great Scottish flare to it. Well scored and clever writing allow for the band members to contribute interesting lines and musical ideas. (4:10)

    Red River - Rob Wiffin

Red River is a piece full of raw energy. The title is about the feeling engendered by the name rather than a reference to a specific place. In the composer's mind it is a river coloured red by the dust of the earth in a hot, sun-drenched landscape. Full of fiery rhythmic drive and syncopation carried along by Latin percussion, performers will enjoy the vigour and verve of the music.Suitable for intermediate level (Grade 3/4) symphonic wind band.

Rock, River, Tree - Michael Sweeney

Drawing inspiration from American poet Maya Angelou's inspirational poem On the Pulse of Morning, this unique work for band offers challenges and rewards for young players. Using the imagery of a rock, a river, a tree, Angelouchallenges us all to work for unity and peace. The music ranges from an energetic percussive pulse (rock) that utilizes plastic buckets played throughout the ensemble, to a flowing chorale theme (river) that's heard near thebeginning and again at the end. Throughout, the piece grows and intensifies (tree) as various musical elements are combined and varied. Dramatic music with important cross-curricular opportunities! Dur: 4:10

White River Ballad - David Gorham

It is easy to imagine the quiet, beautiful river, with its great trees and lush vegetation, flowing downstream. This music depicts a fascinating journey, at times gaining momentum as the stream twists through the various bends, and increasing or decreasing in speed as the river channel gets deeper or shallower, or gets wider or narrower. A beautiful, romantic journey that eventually ends as serenely as it began.
