£57.99Sinfonia piccola op. 66 - Bertold Hummel
This four-movement piece was designed as a double quartet and, as the title implies, is like a little symphony. The varied sound is the result of harmonics, glissandos, pizzicatos, fingerboard and instrument body tapping, solo and ensemble playing. The musical palette ranges from lyrical to jazz, from pathos to absurdity. 'Sinfonia piccola' was premiered by students of the Wrzburg Music Academy at the First International Double Bass Competition and Workshop in 1978 on the Isle of Man. * This work is part of the "Hummel Bass Ensemble Project".

£104.50Eternal Father, Strong To Save - Claude T. Smith
Legendary composer W. Francis McBeth once said, "If Claude Smith only wrote the fanfare to "Eternal Father," he would still be a legend. Smith takes the Navy's hymn as the basis for his fanfare. This famous hymn tune, normally in the major key, has now been placed in the minor key then transitions to Allegro Vivace. The hymn tune is put through its paces including several variations and two fugatos (one for the woodwinds and one for brass). A short transition,(including the famous 7/8 measure!) to the now well-known setting for French horn quartet, gives us an emotional rendition of the original hymn tune now in the major key. The full band plays the hymn, and a timpani roll takes us back to the original fanfare now in C major. A classic of literature and a composition which will provide a meaningful experience for musician and audience member alike.

£264.99Pome Montagnard - Jan van der Roost
Jan Van der Roost received the commission for this work from the 'Orchestre d'Harmonie du Val d'Aoste' and dedicated the composition to Lino Blanchod, the conductor of the orchestra. The first performance was on 26th January 1997 by the orchestra itself and under the direction of the composer. This extensive symphonic poem depicts the atmosphere and history of the autonomous French speaking region 'Val d'Aoste' in northern Italy, and is meant as a musical homage to the historical figure Cathrine de Challant. The opening of this piece describes the rugged nature of this region dominated by Mont Blanc, the roof of Europe. A brief, combative passage conjures up the numerous warsfought here through the ages, later expanding into a surprising 'Renaissance Dance' with an original and fitting recorder quartet. A broad, lyrical theme portrays the love that has always played an important role here. After recapturing several of the earlier themes, the piece closes with the renaissance dance, this time played by the brass. A spectacular finale brings this symphonic poem to a close.

£229.99Extreme Make-Over - Johan de Meij
Extreme Make-Over was inspired by a theme from the second movement of Tchaikovsky?s String Quartet No.1 (Andante Cantabile). It consists of a number of musical metamorphoses on the theme and includes several excerpts from Tchaikovsky?s Fourth and Sixth Symphonies and Romeo and Juliet. The most unconventional element of the work is instrumentation for ten tuned bottles to be played by members of the cornet section. This gives the piece an Indonesian Gamelan effect. Why not give your players something to get their teeth into with this impressive major new work.

£248.99Missa Brevis - Jacob de Haan
Missa Brevis, written for choir and wind band, was commissioned by the Conseil Dpartemental pour la Musique et la Culture de Haute-Alsace (Dir.: Philippe Pfisterer) in Guebwiller (France), in celebration of the millennium of Pope Leon IX'sbirth in guisheim (France). The composer conducted the first performance on June 23, 2002. It was performed live for the French television channel France 2. The mass movements Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, and Agnus Deiare very suitable for the Catholic as well as the Protestant liturgy. For this mass, various ways for performing in diverse variable strengths are possible. An instrumental performance is possible if the brass represents the choir parts. In thisoption, it is desirable for the brass to be positioned separately from the rest of the band (on a gallery, for example), so that the idea of two choirs is approached. In a performance with a large choir, the brass can work very well as a support. Inthat case, the dynamics of the brass should be adapted somewhat, since these are actually intended for an instrumental performance. You can also leave out the brass entirely for the benefit of the choir. For the accompaniment of smaller choirs, youcan opt for a small ensemble from the band. This can also be a quartet, put together as desired. For the performance of this mass, the obvious choice is one of the above options. However, as an alternative, a performance with a combination of theseoptions (vocally/instrumentally) is also possible not just from an artistic point of view (variation), but also from a practical starting point for example in the case that the choir has rehearsed only two movements. With a full strength, theconductor can vary the instrumentation to his or her liking. Then the brass can also play a role in the accompaniment (instead of supporting the choir). The following combinations are possible:1. clarinet choir (from Eb Clarinet to BassClarinet)2. clarinet choir + saxophones3. brass (flugelhorns, horns, euphoniums, bass section)4. brass (2 trumpets / 2 trombones)5. double reeds (optional + flute, optional + string bass)6. tutti7. all winds8. allbrassIn a performance by brass band and choir, it is usually advisable to leave out option 1 (choir + brass + band). The choir sings self-reliantly, accompanied by a full brass band. In an instrumental performance, you can consider a combinedquartet (two cornets and two trombones) + brass band.Choral parts available separately.
