Extra Score. This work takes inspiration from photos taken at the Karman Line (an invisible line 100 kilometres above sea level and is the boundary where the atmosphere of Earth ends, and outer space begins). It portrays the vastness of Space, the mechanics of Space (including shuttles and astronauts), as well as stunning views of the Earth. The main thematic material for the piece is modal, and is developed from key pitches and intervals that define the character and nature of the mixolydian mode. These are gradually introducted as accented notes over the opening ostinato. This modal music is gradually juxtaposed with a more conventional minor scale originally creating conflict and tension, but eventually harmony between these two sound-worlds. Duration: 6'24" Recorded on Polyphonic QPRM 155D Scenes from Childhood.

Television viewers of nearly a hundred countries have experienced Arpad Balazs's touching melodies. The series of cartoons have neither dialogue nor text: the music presents the amiable and entertaining adventures of the rabbit with chequered ears and its friends. Balazs has rephrased and developed the well-known melodies and as a result a ''children's story symphony'' of seven movements has been created in which, in contrast with Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, there is no narrator but the instruments themselves represent the story-tellers. The composer has again associated the groups of instruments with one another in a colourful and varied manner, skilfully alternating the modes of solo, chamber orchestra and orchestra. Movements I, II, IV and VII represent a ''short suite'' that can be independently performed, thus due to its duration of four minutes and easier level, ensembles with more modest opportunities can also perform it. The most well-known parts of the cartoon series music - the main title and the ending - are included in both versions. Northern Landscapes is scored for professional brass quintet and grade 3/4 wind band. The four movements provide musical mood pictures of various aspects of working life in Northern Ireland. 1) Industry opens the suite with the bustle of factory machinery, followed attacca by 2) Seascapes, which evokes the calmness of local waters during a fishing expedition. 3) Earth Dance references the mining industry where the blackness of the environment is mirrored by the darkness of the music. 4) Flight evokes the path of an aircraft on its maiden journey in this tribute to the aircraft industry.

The English musician Phil Collins has written six new songs for the animated Walt Disney film Brother Bear. His catchy pop rock is well known and popular with a worldwide audience. In Brother Bear, the young Kenai kills a grizzly bear to avenge his brother's death. Then he is magically transformed into a bear himself and he makes friends with the bear cub Koda. Together, they undertake a long, exciting journey in search of the mountain where Kenai can become human again. Meanwhile Kenai's remaining brother hunts them in order to avenge his family. Thus, the main themes of Brother Bear are brotherhood and friendship. On My Way gives voice to the courage and the determination that characterise Brother Bear. Peter Kleine Schaars has produced an excellent arrangement for band, which reflects the original film music very well. 0:03:45

PENTIUM (Concert Band) - Graham, Peter
Described by conductor Brian Duguid as "a short ride on a PC", Pentium displays some common traits with the minimalist techniques of John Adams. A five-note figure, first heard in the clarinets and saxophones after the opening swirl and flourish, provides the essential building block for the rondo-like movement. Pentium takes it's name from the "silicon glen" where computer chips are manufactured.
