Royal Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Kinyon, John
Let the trumpets sound! If you want a really dramatic sounding piece for your beginning band, this majestic overture is ideal. Cornets begin with a heralding introduction that is contrasted by low brass and percussion rhythmic punches. When the woodwinds join in, the effect is magnificent! A pleasant flute melody then enters, leading the listener through a stately journey that culminates in a restatement of the introductory herald and a triumphant ending. Duration: 2.15

Queenwood Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - McGinty, Anne
Ingeniously built on a single melodic fragment first stated by the trumpets, the opening section of this very easy overture alternates between a bold full band statement and a more lyrical melody in the woodwinds. A contrasting slow section features a flowing melody in the woodwinds with trumpet answering statements before returning to the fast tempo. First published in 1984, this is a proven winner for beginning bands.

Alphamonic Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Yagisawa, Satoshi
Alphamonic Overture is an opening piece that serves equally well at other points in a concert programme. This unique work is based on the syllables of the name of the orchestra: just as Ravel once wrote a piece using the letters of Haydn's name, Satoshi Yagisawa transformed 'Alphamonic' into 'la-mi-si-la-la-fa-la-so-ti-do' and employed this note row into the basis for the entire composition.Duration: 8:15

Celebration Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Lane, Philip - Noble, Paul
Celebration Overture was composed in the summer of 1976 and was given first prize judged by William Alwyn whose film scores Philip Lane has worked on for commercial recordings in the last 10 years. It is truly a celebratory piece with a dramatic pyramid opening, followed by the melodic introduction in solo clarinet, then solo trumpet, before accelerating to a rousing burst of celebration. A rich slower middle section leads into the return of celebration. This piece is included on several lists of recommended festival and contest literature. (Note: The harp part is non-essential, and may be omitted or played on electronic keyboard or piano.)

Black River Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Doss, Thomas
The Black River Overture was commissioned by the music society Pfarrkapelle Schwarzenbach, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. This light-hearted piece is a compliment to all music societies and wind bands that have continued despite alternative, modern leisure-time activities in villages; as such, they are able to offer a wonderful and meaningful occupation to both the young and young-at-heart: namely, making music! These societies are the basis for all cultural work, making life rich and colourful.Duration: 6:00
