Also available for Solo and Piano (060934050)Epic Variants was commissioned for the 1st clarinet day in Anet (France), not far from La Couture-Boussey where the clarinet was first created.The work was premiered in 2022 on may 7th by Didier Pernoit, bass clarinet soloist of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, accompanied by the concert Band of B, conducted by the composer.The work is based on a theme harmonized with strong epic chord progressions, exploiting the whole register of the bass clarinet, from dark low sounds to soft higher notes.The piece is in one part, but divided in three different moods, each thematic material being a variation from the first one.

In composing the Sinfonietta No. 3 "Zwlfmalgreien Sketches" , Franco Cesarini was inspired by the municipality of Zwlfmalgreien made up of twelve towns, villages and scattered districts which were incorporated into the city of Bolzano (South Tyrol, Italy), over one hundred years ago. The peculiarity of these places, different from each other, but all characterized by rare beauty have contributed to the creation of this 3-movement piece.The first movement - City Life- illustrates activities, tourists and shopping in some of the villages, followed by Mountain Shadowsa slow movement that describes the mountain hamlets where there is little sun in winter. The third and last movement - Classic Vineyards- is lively, in vivid contrast to the previous one. Lots of sun and warmth of the typical wine regions, with echoes of folk dances and Bacchic festivals coming from far away.

Something that has only been talked about in history books is coming to pass: a pandemic! The invisible danger expands more and more, and we feel paralysed by fear and fright. The distance between us and our fellow human beings increases. At the same time, we start to better understand something crucial: we have time again! People help each other out. Neighbourly assistance and support within one's own family becomes more apparent. We stand by each other. Suddenly we have the time for things that we did not have before. Time for reflection... A new era commences. Finally, hope reappears. We leave our houses, but nothing is quite the same anymore. With renewed strength, people begin to perceive the future in a positive and optimistic way once again. Tortoises from "The Carnival of the Animals" is a brand new arrangement of this movement from the orchestral suite by Camille Saint-Sens.The slow and goofy turtle is given a hip-hop groove to speed up a bit but also face some competiton by afast rabbit, presented by the woodwind-section.This arrangement let the low brass play a slow, and veiled melody which are going to played a bit slower compared to the accompaniment.For the daredevil conductor, this piece can be akind of a "schizophrenic" exercise where one have to conduct the melody one and a half beat behind the accompaniment and rhythm group.

The plot of this overture takes place in the year 3000 A.D. At that time traffic between the earth and the planets relies exclusively on space flights. War as a last resort to "settle" arguments between people on earth no longer exists. There is only one gigantic spacecraft which is able to navigate both above and beneath the surface that supervises the oceans. This vessel, the "Lord of Seven Seas", is a hundred times larger than the "Nautilus" or the "Titanic" and must not be compared to any ship of our times. In the introduction of the overture, the gigantic vessel is presented by employing a musical style which is commonly associated with space flights. The introduction isfollowed by a fragment, which evokes the wild fury of rain and storm, and therefore reminds us of the story of the "Flying Dutchman". The middle section is written as a barcarole. The vessel investigates the local fauna in the depths of the Arctic Ocean. People on board enjoy the calmness as well as the variety and beauty of the animals. In the final part, the gigantic vessel emerges from below the surface and climbs to high altitudes flying from one ocean to the other. The magnificent finale portrays once again the incomparable sight which is offered by the impressive "Lord of Seven Seas".

£154.99The Power of the Megatsunami - Carl Wittrock
The word 'tsunami' is of Japanese origin. When you look it up in a dictionary, you will find that it means 'a great sea wave produced by submarine earth movement or volcanic eruption'. A megatsunami is the superlative of this awesome expression of power that nature can create, and has catastrophic consequences. When Carl Wittrock completed this composition not many such big earth movements had occurred, but since then we have become all too familiar with the disastrous consequences which a tsunami may have. On the 26th of December 2004 a heavy seaquake took place near the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Tidal waves 10 meters in height ravaged the coastal regions ofmany countries for miles around. The tsunami took the lives of thousands of people and destroyed many villages and towns. There are more areas which run the risk of being struck by a tsunami, such as the island of La Palma, one of the Canary Islands. This island is based on oceanic crust at a fracture zone and as such is one of nature's time bombs. The consequences of a natural calamity like a megatsunami are immense. In the case of La Palma, the tidal wave will move in the direction of South America, where it may reach 50 km inland, destroying everything on its way. In his composition Wittrock describes an ordinary day which will have an unexpected ending. Right from the beginning there seems to be something in the air, the music creating an oppressive atmosphere of impending disaster. Themes are interrupted, broken off suddenly, followed by silence, suggesting the calm before the storm. Suddenly a short climax (glissandi in the trombone part) indicates the seaquake, and the megatsunami is a fact. Hereafter follows a turbulent passage symbolising the huge rolling waves. After nature's force has spent itself, resignation sets in and the composition ends with a majestic ode to nature.

One of the earliest recordings of this song was by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters in 1950 on Decca. Funk is a very rhythmic music style that finds its origin in the 1960s. The American artist James Brown and the New Orleans-based group The Meters are considered the founders of this genre. Zion Hears the Watchmen Singing (Zion hrt die Wchter singen) is the fourth of seven movements of Bach's cantata Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme ('Awake, calls the voice to us'), BWV 140, also known as Sleepers Wake. It is regarded as one of his most mature and popular sacred cantatas. It is written in the style of a chorale prelude, with the phrases of the chorale, sung as a cantus firmus by the tenors (or by the tenor soloist), entering intermittently against a famously lyrical melody played in this arrangement in unison principally by the woodwinds. Bach composed the chorale cantata in Leipzig for the 27th Sunday after Trinity and first performed it on 25 November 1731. This arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.
