A century ago, James Causley Windram, then band director of the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers (and later the Coldstream Guards) asked Gustav Holst if he would transcribe some of the composer's Hymns from the Rig Veda for military band. Always a band advocate, Holst readily agreed. In this thoroughly characteristic suite, two of Windram's settings (Hymn of the Travellers and Battle Hymn) have been edited for modern instrumentation, while a third (Hymn to Manas) has been arranged by Jon Ceander Mitchell from Holst's original choral setting.

Charanga For Trumpet - Boudewijn Cox
Boudewijn Cox is chiefly known as a Flemish composer in the modern classical music scene, but he has his roots in jazz.Charanga was a composition assignment from the "De Hoop" Ossendrecht music association and was created by Frank van der Poel in November 1999. Frank van der Poel, to whom this work is dedicated, is a well-known trumpet player and a renowned soloist who specialises in light music. He is also very esteemed as a big band lead trumpet.

Celtic Fantasy - Keiichi Kurokawa
"Celtic" is a widely used term. Its history and culture expands to modern day Spain, Portugal, and North America.However, in this piece, I have based my music on the typical "Celtic" areas of Ireland and Scotland.The Bagpipe drone at the beginning reappears several times.After the introduction, the music transitions to an Irish Reel, The Wind That Shakes The Barley. Reel is a fast tempo dance, often in 4/4 or 2/2 time.Next is the Scottish folksong Auld Lang Syne, known as "Hotaru no Hikari" in Japan.The third movement is called Scotland the Brave. It is often performed by military bagpipe ensembles. Once air is blown into the bag, there is a constant reservoir of sound for Great Highland Bagpipes.A Part (advanced) is a grade 2.5-3 in American grading system. B Part (beginner) is 1-1.5.B Part is accessible for elementary school and junior high school beginning band students in Japan. However, the drone-sounding sections require a certain technique to hold the sound steady.It is my sincere desire that beginning musicians understand the importance of fundamentals through performing good music.Keiichi Kurokawa

Celtic Scents is an amazing suite of wonderful musical scents (wildflowers, herbs, and trees) unified by the brilliant imagination of world-renowned teacher, performer and composer Kazimierz Machala, and the familiar sounds of Celtic folk music. This completely original work of seven movements is reminiscent of Grainger'sLincolnshire Posy, including a very creative and enjoyable harmonic palette. The composition requires a full wind band and takes advantage of colorful orchestration to link each movement more closely to the scent it represents. While Machala composed Celtic Scents originally for orchestra, he has carefully and artistically re-orchestrated the work for the modern wind band. Celtic Scents will best suit performances by collegiate and professional wind bands around the world due to the advanced technical and musical requirements. There is absolutely no doubt that audiences and performers will enjoy their time spent with this joyful and engaging composition.
