The enchanting town of Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland, has been an inspiration to many artists, saints, and scholars over many centuries. It lies in the heart of the beautiful Killarney National Park, and near Ireland's highest mountains. There are many places of interest to be found in Killarney and the surrounding area such as churches and other historical buildings, as well as a varied landscape with waterfalls, lovely valleys, and gorgeous lakes. The town also has many great restaurants, nice crafts shops and lively pubs where traditional Irish music is often heard. A visit to Killarney inspired Johan Nijs to describe his impressions in this composition. The typical sounds of Irish music echo throughout the work. 0:07:30

Les Voyages de Gulliver Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Maxime Aulio composed Les Voyages de Gulliver (Gulliver's Travels) for the concert band of the Conservatoire National de R?gion in Toulouse (France) conducted by Jean-Guy Olive. The first performance took place in Toulouse (Auditorium Saint-Pierre des Cuisines) on April 25, 2001. The Anglo-Irish author Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) took about six years to complete his epic tale of adventure. The creative storyline, clear writing and subtlety of Gulliver's Travels have been engaging readers for generations. This literary travel between reason and foolishness was Maxime Aulio's inspiration for this piece. Each of the four movements of this suite is a review of Gulliver's adventures, resembling the effect of a kaleidoscope, which juxtaposes small fragments of colour in a linear pattern. 0:19:00

The piece describes how, come rain or shine, the lighthouse bids a safe journey to departing ships, guides them during their travels and eventually welcomes them home again. The music evokes many musical images - grand ships sailing by, white-capped waves, the deep blue of the ocean and the light of 'sword cape" as it silently guides ships over the mysterious waters. 0:03:25

This piece was composed as a birthday present for the Austrian conductor Walter Rescheneder to acknowledge the strong support he has given to the composer, Thomas Doss. Doss drew the inspiration for this fanfare from a mountain hike in the Salzkammergut. A powerful fanfare reveals enthusiasm and triumph. It is an exulting feeling and gives boundless freedom to look down into the depths from high up giving a view of the stunning landscape. The main melodic theme represents the feeling of vastness one experiences by taking just one quick glance into the distance. A musical treat! 03:50

Night on Bald Mountain Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
The symphonic poem Night on a Bald Mountain took its inspiration from a story by the well known Russian writer Nicola Gogol. Mussorgsky took no steps to promote his masterpiece and it was only after his death when Rimsky-Korsakov was looking through the enormous stack of manuscripts that the work resurfaced. Written above the score, Mussorgsky gives a brief description of the story of Night on a Bald Mountain: Gathering Witches, their gossip and chit-chat; The Procession of Satan; Pagan Worship of Satan and Witches Sabbath. This transcription for concert band by Tohru Takahasi remains true to the orchestral original. 0:10:56

Ancestral worship and various other rituals and ceremonies are still held in high regard to this very day.Running HunterThe Aborigines are extremely skilful hunters and are able to run for extended periods of time when chasing their prey. Hunting weapons, such as the boomerang, exemplify their abilities.Uluru (Red Rock)Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is a natural sandstone "inselberg" rising 348m above Australia's plains, and is one of the country's most recognisable icons. Uluru is also a sacred place for the local Aborigines. Its history stretches back to Dreamtime, although it did not exist in its current state at that time.Encounter with the White MenUnfortunately, the "White Men" did not realize the significance and importance of the Aborigines and their culture until the end of the 20th century. Before then, they were unaware that the Aborigines were quite possibly one of the oldest known cultures on earth, with a seamless history stretching back to creation itself; Dreamtime. BushfireFire has been present on the Australian continent for millions of years. Many of the indigenous flora and fauna have needed to adapt to fire, and evolution has led to unique solutions for survival.
