£99.99Ukrainian Bell Carol - Mykola D. Leontovich
The Ukrainian Bell Carol is part of a large choral work entitled Shchedryk by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Dmytrovich Leontovych (1877-1921). It was first performed by students of Kiev University in December 1916. The tune is an adaptation of an old 'shchedrivka', a song traditionally sung on Ukrainian New Year's Eve (January 13th) which hopes for good fortune in the year to come. In Shchedryk, Leontovych added his own the lyrics which concern the legend claiming that when Jesus was born, all the bells on earth started ringing in his honour. The tune has since been the inspiration of at least four different Christmas carols, but Philip Sparke has sourcedthe original Ukrainian melody to create this stirring arrangement.

£87.99David of the White Rock - Traditional
This is an ancient Welsh air that was first published in Relics of the Welsh Bards in 1794. Dafydd (David) Owain was a famous Welsh bard who lived on a farm called Gareg Wen (The White Rock) in Eifionydd, Carnarnvonshire, North Wales. Tradition has it that on his deathbed he called for his Harp and composed this lovely melody, requesting that it be played at his funeral. Accordingly, it was later played at the parish church of Ynys-Cynhaiarn. Lyrics were later added by Ceiriog Hughes, which describe the melody's inspiration. This version for Concert Band retains all the beauty and simplicity of the original.

£106.99Towards the Western Horizon - Philip Sparke
The inspiration for this piece came from the address of the person who commissioned the work: Morse Street, Houston, Texas. It pays tribute to the immense skill of the engineers who succeeded in submerging a wire across the Atlantic to send messages in morse code from America to Europe. This technical ingenuity provided the perfect source of material for a transatlantic musical message. This work explores the vast expanse of the Atlantic and makes use of Irish melodies to celebrate the point where the cable enters into the Atlantic Ocean.

£164.99Moving Heaven and Earth - Philip Sparke
Moving Heaven and Earth consists of a theme and 4 variations; although the theme is original it contains a phrase heavily influenced by a 14-bar passage from the Libera Me in Faur's Requiem. It is a sequence that the composer finds harmonically compelling and, although it is never quoted directly, it appears in altered form in the theme and each of the variations. In the original, the passage is set to the words: Quando cli movendi sunt et terra (When the heavens and the earth shall be moved) which gave inspiration for the title.

Forged in Fire - Rob Romeyn
An epic programmatic piece, "Forged In Fire" is a work of vibrant energy, vivid color and immense power. It draws inspiration from the immense power and uses of fire, and its effect on early civilization and industrialization. A calm and sensitive introductions leads to a new theme at a quickening tempo. This theme, stated simply at first, is then embellished by a driving rhythm multi-meter effect, and further developed with layered contemporary harmonies, changing textures and variations on the theme. After a breathtaking climax, the original theme is restated, more powerfully this time. It then subsides, before building to a shimmering, red hot ending that will leave your audience breathless.
