This lively work, expertly arranged by Johan de Meij, is taken from the soundtrack of the recently released animated film Till Eulenspiegel. In writing the music for the film the composer, S?ren Hyldgaard, said: "Writing music for an animated adventure romp like Till Eulenspiegel is about as much fun as I can imagine having as a composer. While extremely challenging on the timing and hitting-the-action side, the furious universe of the animated adventure genre is as much an inspiration as it is an obstacle." The King's March from Till Eulenspiegel captures the high spirits of the film itself with the arrival of the extravagant entourage containing the royal carriage with all its Pomp and Circumstance. The musical inspiration for this piece came from the scenes and speeches on a rock emblazoned with battle scenes from our nation's history. The piece opens with a military-sounding march that leads to a solemn section over which a narrator reads the speeches seen on the rock while a muted trumpet plays "Taps" in the background. The initial march then returns, with fragments of numerous patriotic melodies juxtaposed with the original melody, coming to an exciting ending. Duration: 4.45

Scenes from an English Landscape is a brief nostalgic tone poem taking its inspiration from visions of rural England as depicted in the paintings of John Constable, the novels of Thomas Hard, and the music of Holst, Gustav and Ralph Vaughan Williams. A chorale-like theme is stated in the brass and then taken up at three times the tempo in the woodwinds. At the end of the work, both versions of the theme are stated together to bring the piece to a triumphant climax.

The last decades of the 20th century saw man's first steps in space exploration. Since the first moon landing by Neil Armstrong in 1969, these adventures in outer space have captured the public's imagination and have given birth to scores of science fiction movies, books and TV series that have tackled the subject. Infinity and Beyond... takes as its inspiration the wonderful film scores of composers such as John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith, who have almost invented a style which could be called 'space music'.Opening with a rhythmic bass figure, Infinity and Beyond... begins with a robust introduction in 3/4, which leads to the main theme in 4/4, played by the full band. A short bridge passage, utilising the interval of a fourth, leads to a modal central section, featuring first the trumpets and then played by the whole band; this in turn leads back to a repeat of the introduction until the main theme returns to bring the piece to a close.Duration: 3:00

Monticello is the name of a little place northeast of Rome where my wife and I have rented a simple home for more than 20 years. We participated intensively in the cultural life of the community where there was also a little band, the Banda Municipale Cornicolana, which consisted of about 55 wind players, mostly youngsters. One day, the "Il Direttore" came to me and asked if I would like to write a march for them, which I naturally did. It became the Marcia a Montecelio. After 14 rehearsals, with everyone tired, perspiring and red in the face, we were forced to give up. The march was too difficult for them. I then wrote another, easier march for them to perform at the forthcoming feast of San Michaeli. The Montecelio march was composed on pure inspiration in just two days. It is written in the Italian style - with a pinch of Sousa.
