Centenary 2019 is a three-movement suite based on a local folksong and was commissioned by Chr. Fanfare De Lofstem, from the Dutch province of Friesland, on the occasion of its 100th anniversary in 2019. Awakening Village, the first movement, musically describes the waking up and coming to life of the village. Bintje Monument was inspired by a famous sculpture that was placed to honour headmaster Kornelis Lieuwes de Vries (1854-1929) who developed the well-known potato variety called bintje. The finale, Journey into the Unknown, refers to the band's memorable 2011 concert trip to the United States of America, in which the composer combines elements of the folksong and fragments from The Star-Spangled Banner. The piece consists of a wide range of playful and melodic sequences as well as some galvanising rhythmical passages.Duration: 10.15

Palustrus, for percussion ensemble and band, is based on two musical ideas. The first, a figure of two 16th notes, is introduced alluding to tiny seedlings as they sprout from the fertile earth. This figure quickly grows in frequency and density, then spreads into the second idea using a series of diatonic patterns. "Palustrus" is a medium-difficult, but attainable technical challenge in a diatonic setting. At the heart of this piece are several elements that inspired the composer. First of all: nature, infinite and inexhaustible, giving life and power, something bigger than humans can grasp. The composer used the Gregorian hymn 'Veni Creator Spiritus' as a leitmotiv to reflect this idea. A second element was the passing of David Maslanka, a dear friend of the composer, honoured in the work by a few musical 'echoes'. At the end of the work, there is a passage for optional choir in different possible settings. The Source was commissioned by the Banda Giovanlie Regionale ANBIMA FVG, Italy, and is an impressive, stirring and moving piece of music. Duration: 8.00
