£84.99Scherzpolka - Thomas Doss
In the somewhat sarcastic Scherzpolka (Joke Polka), the composer does not intend to make fun of Alpine traditions and music but rather of the typical social attitude that does not always do justice to the valuable folk music and culture. Imagine a band that has to play in a beer tent for hours. During the performance the guests treat the musicians to one beer after another. Gradually, the players and the conductor lose control over their instruments and their interpretation of the music. Finally, the performance comes to an end: the Scherzpolka is actually the last piece. There are no limits to the creativity in both the visual and musical aspects during a performance of theScherzpolka!

£84.99A Taste of Honey - Bobby Scott
Ever heard of Tijuana Taxi, Spanish Flea or A Taste of Honey? Even if these names do not ring a bell, everyone has certainly hummed along when hearing these pieces on the radio. This arrangement is full of surprises with exciting fragments, sparkling and catchy passages and colourful instrumentations. A part for electric guitar intensifies the swinging feeling of the piece, but is not obligatory. This arrangement will definitely get the audience in a party mood.

£168.50Spirit of the Sequoia - Philip Sparke
When Philip Sparke composed this piece he tried to create a work that characterised man's ability to overcome personal tragedy and the feeling of serenity gained when the tragedy is forgotten. To do this he decided to use the analogy of the sequoia, a generic name for the huge redwood trees, particularly the Californian redwood. The remarkable life cycle of these amazing trees involves them dropping seeds to the ground which require heat, such as a ferocious forest fire to re-grow. In a similar way, the human spirit can actually gain from setbacks - we become stronger after adversity. The music falls into sections which can broadly be characterised as doubt, conflict, catharsis, inner calm and finally triumph. A fantasic new major concert work from the pen of Philip Sparke.

£79.99The Painted Desert - Philip Sparke
The south-western US state of Arizona has more than its fair share of stunning landscapes, natural phenomena and National Monuments. Best known is the Grand Canyon, but there are also numerous deserts, a petrified forest, extinct volcanoes and the huge Sunset Crater. Not surprisingly, it has featured as the backdrop to many Western movies. The Painted Desert is a narrow, crescent-shaped arc about 160 miles long which begins near the Grand Canyon and varies in width from 10 to 35 miles. It is largely void of vegetation and years of erosion by wind and rain have exposed sedimentary layers of rock up to 250 million years old. Chemical differences in the various layers result in aneffect not unlike a multicoloured layer cake with contrasting hues of red, orange and pink, blue, grey and lavender creating a silent and barren landscape which looks like it has been hand-painted. As with much of the planet's stunning landscapes all the observer can do is stand and stare.

£87.99Old Hundredth - Louis Bourgeois
The tune Old Hundredth is one of the best-known melodies in all Christian musical traditions and first appeared in the 1551 psalter "Pseaumes Octante Trois de David", where it is used as a setting for a version of Psalm 134; it is usually attributed to the French composer Louis Bourgeois (c.1510 - c.1560). The melody was then used in 1561 by the Scots clergyman, William Kethe in Sternhold and Hopkins' Psalter for his paraphrase of Psalm 100 - All People that on Earth do Dwell, which is still the most familiar hymn sung to this noble tune. When Tate and Brady's "New Version of the Psalms" was published in 1696, the melody became know as the 'old' version - henceits current title. This arrangement presents three contrasting verses and is effective as a concert piece as well as an instrumental interlude as part of a church service or wedding.

£72.99The Girl with the Flaxen Hair - Claude Debussy
Impressionist composer Claude Debussy wrote his set of Prludes for the piano between 1909 and 1913. In their entirety, his Prludes total 24 individual pieces in two volumes. It is from these that Karel Deseure has selected fivepreludes for his Cinq Prludes. La fille aux cheveux de lin is probably the most well-known of the five (and Debussy's 24).Deseure approached each prelude as being musically independent of the others. Consequently, they do not have to be played in a specific order or even as a complete set. It is worth noting that in Debussy's original edition the titles wereprinted at the end each prelude, almost like a footnote, so the performer could look at themusic without being influenced by Debussy's descriptive titles. The Prludes also demonstrate Debussy's superb orchestration skills. Deseure took great care orchestrating these five preludes so he could capture and convey their original character and mood as accurately as possible. The original key signatures were kept and only very minute changes were made to the pitchesthemselves, such as occasional octave doublings to fill out the ensemble.
