£116.40Suite de Salon - Henk van Lijnschooten
Commissioned by the NIB, the Dutch Wind Music Institute, with the financial support of the 'Fonds voor de scheppende Toonkunst'.CommentaryThis suite brings us back to the 18th century when an important part of the musical life took place in the salons, the favorite quarters of monarchs and important people. There is a ball and we can hear the music in four successive short movements.1. Entree. After an opening fanfare we see the solemn reception of the guests. The composer uses some 17th century musical principles such as the echo dynamics.2. Invitation a la Danse. The guests proceed to the ballroom and are officially introduced. This movement has a 'classical' character.3. Chiaconna. A solemn dance of Spanish origin with a single theme that is repeated with different embellishments and accompaniments.4. Danse Finale. A cheerful dance announces the departure of the guests, but, for sure, the feast will have lasted much longer than this suite.

£141.99Jalan-Jalan - Shin'ya Takahashi
Jalan-jalan was inspired by the music of Bali, Indonesia based upon its unique melodies, modes and rhythms. As part of the independent archipelago "Ryukyu", Okinawa (southernmost Japan) had an active exchange with Bali that included cultural and musical influences. Jalan-jalan means "walkabout" or "walking journey" in Indonesian. It describes a walk in the so-called Isle of the Gods, encountering Bali's beautiful scenery and daily life. Its four themes include "Dawn," "Morning Market," "Beach in Early Afternoon" and "Kecak Dance (a form of Balinese dance and music drama, performed primarily by men) in Torchlight."An imposing pesante introduction will properly establish this song's mood. Boldly balance winds and percussion to the prominent timpani solo. At Allegro Vivo, observe the lighter abbreviated scoring and balance melody/countermelody at E. Melodies are elongated at the Grazioso, and tenor/bass rhythm figures need enough separation to be felt. The urgent-feeling Presto must initially be reserved except for the percussive "slaps"; same thing again at O. The daunting rhythmic figure at Q is actually a chattering effect-combine the two elements to teach continuity and placement. Don't "over blow" the ending, but continue to emphasize unique rhythmic elements.(Shin'ya Takahashi)

£106.99The River Knows Your Name - Jacob de Haan
This work describes the way the German river Saar holds the names of all the people who once lived in the area and of those who live there now. The introduction depicts the river flowing toward its confluence with the Mosel. The first names revealed by the river, in a dance, are those of the Romans, who established their first settlement here. Then the beautiful Saar Cathedral is portrayed, where believers give voice to the names of the people they know. Next, a powerful passage resounds: a reflection of the entrepreneurial spirit in Dillingen that has taken shape through the famous metal industry. Via a short clarinet solo, the work flows toward its conclusion in an emotional, stirring fashion, from nostalgic strains to full-blown euphoria.
