Zodiac Dances was commissioned by the Izumiotsu City Band, Osaka, Japan to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Sparke had previously written the piece, Prelude to a Celebration for the band, and in composing a new piece for their 50th anniversary wanted to personalise it to reflect the band's history. He chose to write a set of six dance-miniatures based on the decades following the band's foundation and the equivalent signs from the Japanese 'Junishi'. During the piece, all aspects of true musicianship come to the surface. Energetic playing, phrasing, melodic music making, technique and a spectacular finale make this work a perfect test or concertwork!

On 11 March 1879 in the Austrian town of Neumarkt am Wallersee a huge fire broke out in a brewery, setting fire to at least 60 other houses within one hour. Due to poor equipment and a lack of water, nearly the entire city was burned to the ground.Only the church was spared. This epic piece musically depicts the events in a programmatic way starting from the inauspicious moments shortly before the disaster, throughout the fire, and the final reconstruction of the town with the help of thestrong spirit and unity of the Salzburg community. This work was commissioned by the Rokko Verde Wind Orchestra in Japan. Musically it depicts aspects of both the beautiful, open-minded home of the Wind Orchestra - the Kobe City of Hyogo Prefecture - as well as the hope felt following the difficultyof the 1995 Hanshin-Awaii earthquake. Satoshi Yagisawa uses an impressive chorale as a cornerstone of this piece, which is written in his recognisable energetic style.

This march was commissioned by The office of cultural affairs in Fana and Ytrebygda (a part of Bergen Municipality) for the opening of The Bergen Light Rail. The premiere was given by The Norwegian Navy Band Bergen and Smrs skolemusikkduring the light rails maiden voyage. Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway opened the light rail on June 22nd 2010.My ida was to give the march a strong link to Bergen. In the bass solo (letter B) I have quoted Bergens "national"anthem Nystemtn and in the Trio (letter E) I have used a bugle call from Bergens unique tradition of archerchery brigades. The first part of the march is meant to have a sort of train feel to it; somethingthats moving steadily through thestreets of the city.
