The beautiful song "Song at Winter Solstice" has within short time been highly loved by listeners all around Norway. It's performed by folk-rock band "Hekla Stlstrenga" who released their first album "Hekla Stlstrenga" in 2008. This album was nominated for "Spellemansprisen" (the Norwegian equivalent to Grammy) in the folk music / traditional music category. "Song at Winter Solstice" was released as single record in 2013. To the conductor: In this band arrangement you can choose whether to perform with or without repetition of the melody. If you want to use a song soloist, play the piece as is with all the verses that belong. As instrumental you can choose to go straight in the2nd house to make the song shorter.

Storbystev has a catchy tune, and incorporates a mix of funk-, samba- and rock rythms. The alto saxophone and trumpet are featured as soloists, but the piece also show-cases the tuba- and percussion sections.The piece works especially well as a concert opener (or the first piece after an interval). One can start the piece with only the triangle-player on stage, and the rest of the band can take their places and join in when ready.Storbystev was written for the Oslofjord Brass Band and their participation in the Siddis Brass entertainment contest in Stavanger in 1996. Television viewers of nearly a hundred countries have experienced rpd Balzs's touching melodies. The series of cartoons have neither dialogue nor text: the music presents the amiable and entertaining adventures of the rabbit with chequered ears and its friends. Balzs has rephrased and developed the well-known melodies and as a result a ''children's story symphony'' of seven movements has been created in which, in contrast with Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, there is no narrator but the instruments themselves represent the story-tellers. The composer has again associated the groups of instruments with one another in a colourful and varied manner, skilfully alternating the modes of solo, chamber orchestra and orchestra. Movements I, II, IV and VII represent a ''short suite'' that can be independently performed, thus due to its duration of four minutes and easier level, ensembles with more modest opportunities can also perform it. The most well-known parts of the cartoon series music - the main title and the ending - are included in both versions.

Ernani (1844), Giuseppe Verdi's fifth opera, is based on the homonymous tragedy by Victor Hugo. Verdi's success with Ernani, as well as Nabucco and I lombardi alla prima crociata, can be ascribed to two distinct ideas: the melodic idea and the patriotic idea. The melodic idea is very important to move and touch the audience, while the patriotic idea is the source of enthusiasm and emotions. Approximately ten years elapse between two similar stories: the one of the outlaw Ernani and the one of Manrico, the troubadour. In the prelude to Act I, in only three minutes, Verdi has succeeded in skillfully concentrating the main elements of the entiredrama. One can clearly observe the themes of love, oath, and death.

The Spiked Wheel - Tom De Haes
The legends surrounding Saint Catherine of Alexandria, also known as the Great Martyr Saint Catherine, were the source of inspiration for this work. It depicts events surrounding her life in five musical episodes. The first episode presents the Emperor's procession and theme. All is well until a heathen sacrificial ritual is heard in the second movement. After the sacrifice, Catherine and her lyrical, reflective theme make an appearance. A dispute breaks out between Catherine and the Emperor, which can be heard in the heated exchange between their respective themes. Catherine is sentenced to die by the breaking wheel. The voices of angels can be heard in the finale, asCatherine ascends to heaven.
