Composed in 1942, Barber's Second Essay is a masterwork of concentrated musical drama, with a richness of texture comprised of highly charged and succinctly organised musical modules. The opening theme has adefinite American flavour, which is followed by a fugal section that evolves from simple tonal patterns to polytonality. After an intensely rhythmic third section, all elements are combined in a huge climax and coda that round offthe work. The world-famous Hungarian composer Kamill Lendvay (b. 1928) has written not only operas, oratorios, cantatas, symphonies, concertos, chamber music and solo instrumental works but also a considerable number of pieces for wind ensembles. His Wind Symphony, composed in 2007-2008, consists of four movements: I. Invocation of the Muse - II. Sunrise in Copacabana - III. The Iguazu Falls - IV. Rio Carnival. The work was written for professional ensembles and will have its premiere in Szeged on April 16, 2010, performed by the Concert Wind Ensemble of the Faculty of Music of Szeged University, conducted by Jzsef Csikota.

Flicien Doyen, the President of the Tornacum Royal Choir Circle of Tournai (Belgium) and a close friend of the composer commissioned this Mass. Missa Tornacum was originally composed for mixed choir and organ, gave a memorable performance of thepiece in the Chartres Cathedral in France.Although it does not include the Credo, the work is composed according to the traditional structure of a Mass in five parts : Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei, and Ite missa est. En the first two parts, adialogue is created between the choir and the band. It is followed by the Sanctus cycle ("Sanctus" - "Hosanna" - "Benedictus"), which is remarkable for the contrasts between the tone colorscharacterizing each of its three parts. The fourth part,Agnus Dei, takes on a tone of serene intimacy. A free counterpoint draws this section to a close by fading into an almost imperceptible quietness. Ite missa est begins with a series of imitations, which develop into a majestic and cheerful passagemarking the end of the Mass. Choir parts are available separately.

Sound Variations is a work comprising of eight short sections, each based on a simple theme, each characterised by a great variety of styles and sounds. It opens with a fanfare-like introduction that soon leads into the presentation of the main theme followed by five variations on this theme. Each of these variations has its own style: Swing, Latin, Waltz, March and Rock. After a final repeat of the main theme, the work comes to an end with a brilliant finale.

Claribelle is fairly unique as a solo piece as rather than using one soloist it uses the whole clarinet section to play the solo part. . The composition is characterised by a fast tempo and by a theme which primarily consists of scale patterns that create a virtuoso character. Wim Laseroms wrote the piece in ABA-form with the accompaniment in the middle section having a somewhat more lyric character than that of the first and last sections. In the coda, the solo and the accompaniment join forces and conclude this short work in style with a brilliant fortissimo.

In writing this piece, Gino Bergamini was inspired by the figure of Davy Crockett, hunter and pioneer in the colonisation of the western part of North America. The piece is built entirely on the smooth succession of intriguing themes and characterised by sharp rhythms. The themes, after a short elaboration with an expressive and meaningful style, return in a finale with rich sonority to recreate the fascinating atmosphere of that mythical hero Davy Crockett.

In combining his gifts as a composer with his great creative spark, Andr Waignein composed Remember Mozart, a delicate and flowing work dedicated to one of the greatest composers in music history, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Remember Mozart develops a single but serene melodic line, only interrupted by some measures in the central passage. The primary theme soon returns, proceeding with a natural flow, and leads the work to a modulatory section - a bridge passage to the Mozartian-flavored finale, brilliantly highlighted by a composer filled with admiration for the genius of Salzburg.
