    Mixed Bag - Peter Martin

'Mixed Bag' stands midway between a collection and a hotchpotch. It is a colourful compilation of four completely different pieces, each with its own specific character. The first part is called 'Tanguillo' : as its name suggests, this Spanish dance is related to the Tango. In the next part, 'Maybe next time ....' a repeated bass line (Passacaglia) can be heard, first solo, but thereafter gradually the other instruments join in. The third part forms a huge contrast did the former part have a Baroque atmosphere, 'Rock Hard' seems to have come directly from the Rock 'n Roll era, reminding us of stars such as Bill Haley and Elvis Presley. The finale is acheerful, inciting movement called 'Gypsy Dance'.

Oh When the Saints - Peter Kleine Schaars

If there is one single jazz tune known by old and young people alike all over the world, it is undoubtedly 'Oh when the saints go marching in'. It has been played and recorded in every imaginable way by countless jazz stars from Louis Armstrong to all kinds of New-Orleans and Dixieland bands. Peter Kleine Schaars wrote this sparkling arrangement for symphonic band with solo vocal part. A slow introduction presents the theme and is immediately followed by a roaring swing version; then we get a quieter march tempo, but soon a break on the drums brings us again into a fine swinging tempo. Mr. Bojangles - Jerry Jeff Walker

'Mr. Bojangles' is a popular song written and initially recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker in 1968 and covered since by many other artists. The song was inspired by an encounter with a street performer in the New Orleans first precinct jail. Although this man could tap dance, the inspiration for the song was the famous stage and movie dancer Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson. Robbie Williams recorded it on it's bigband CD 'Swing When You're Winning'.

    Rockin' Trumpets - Philip Sparke

The history of rock and roll can be traced back as far as the musical influence of the first African slaves to arrive in North America. The style borrows heavily from rhythm and blues and early rock stars such as Ike Turner, Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley had a huge influence through the newly-invented juke box and liberated the youth of the day by giving them a music of their own. Rockin? Tumpets gives the young band a chance to rock and roll with the trumpets taking the lead. Treat your trumpets to this lively solosection feature.
