Ascent
Ascent reflects the effort to get off the ground, literally or figuratively. It's a micro-overture that begins with the promise of upward transcendence, yet soon flies off into rogue disorganization. A raucous flock of notes finally converges into a united upward-headed murmuration, but the freedom of soaring through the sky brings an uneasy mystery before settling into the tranquil air of anticipation.

Fiori - Thomas Doss
Fiori finds its genesis in a walk through an impressionistic garden. It expresses not only the atmosphere and mood but also tiny and grotesque scenes between the insects. The flute, as a solo instrument, plays a perfect role in this marvellous micro world. It was a challenge for the composer to integrate the sound of the flute through the "fragrance of flowers and exotic plants that fills the air".

Songs From Across The Water - Philip Sparke
Songs from Across the Water was commissioned by Pennsylvania Symphonic Winds - Phil Evans, Founder and Director. Phil Evans hails from the UK and served for 25 years in the Band of HM Royal Marines. Now resident in the USA he founded Pennsylvania Symphonic Winds in 2008, giving them the tag line 'An American Band with a British Accent', as he wanted to combine the best of both countries' band traditions. With this in mind, composer Philip Sparke decided to create a suite of British folk songs, scored with an American influence to fulfil the philosophy of the band's tag line. The three movements, which are played without a break, are based onthe following folk songs, which come from all corners of the British Isles: 'The Three Ravens & The Cruiskeen Lawn', 'The Lark in the Clear Air' and 'The Piper o' Dundee & Men of Harlech'.

A Spring Lullaby - Andrew Pearce
During the past few years, Andrew Pearce enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with Phillip Cobb, principal trumpet of the London Symphony Orchestra, composing such works as The Maestro and Interlude for his album in 2012. Later Cobb invited Pearce to compose a slow melody, accompanied by the Central Band of the Royal Air Force for Cobb's upcoming album, displaying his softer, expressive side on flugelhorn. The Battle of the Hats - Øystein Sjøvaag Heimdal
The word svimesltt, which is the title of this piece in Norwegian, has two meanings. One meaning is "knocked out", whilst the other, "sltt", means a folk melody/dance.Svimesltt is one of several folk dances, all of them with humorous titles, originally written by ystein Olsen Vadsten. Norwegian culture is the basis for these dances, both rhythmically and melodically. The accompaniment has brought this funpiece into the 21st Century. When it comes to Svimesltt, it is the traditional dance "halling" that is the inspiration. Halling is a rather wild dance, where the man tries to win the heart of a lady by attempting to kick a hat off a stick, held up in the air. This iswhere "The Battle of the Hats" gets its distinctive name A truly Norwegian tradition. The composer wanted to write a "crazy" melody, which highlights how "knocked out" a man can be by love, as he tries to win the chosen ones heart.
