    The Seafarer - Haydn Wood

    The maritime rhapsody The Seafarer (1940) is based on some well known Irish and Scottish traditional music. As a resident on the Isle of Man, where he moved at very young age, Haydn Wood has grown up with the sea and the sea shanties. The work has a traditional form, a true rhapsody and has been performed hundreds of times throughout Europe, similar as Wood's work Manin Ween. The new full score and revised instrumentation of The Seafarer, have adapted the work to present day wind band settings.

    Golden Eagle (March) - Alfred Reed

    This concert march was commissioned by Ishikawa Prefecture and dedicated to the 46th National Athletic Meeting in 1991 in Japan. It was first performed on March 21st 1990 by the All-Ishikawa Prefectural High School Band in the Kanazawa Kanko Kaikan Concert Hall, under the direction of the composer. The Trio is built on a traditional Japanese song which lyrics celebrate te joy of athletic competition among people of every age.

    Awakened Like the Morn - Robert Sheldon

    This stirring composition was inspired by Ann Terry's poem In Every Age and was commissioned by the Ottawa Elementary and High School Music Fest held in Ottawa, Illinois.     George Gershwin (1898 - 1937) was an American composer, best known for his work crossing the genres of classical, jazz and light music. His work in the genres of musicals and films was extremely successful. Gershwin's works received much more appreciation and recognition after his death, which was at a young age. The medley The Great Gershwin incorporates music from various light compositions (Summertime on the other hand stems from his real opera, Porgy and Bess).

    Wind on the Hill - Naoya Wada

    Composer Naoya Wada has written Wind On The Hill as an ode to his youth. As a child he lived in a house on a steep hill. From here he had a clear view of the nearby town, the amusement park, and the yearly firework display in the bay. All of these aspects as well as the wind as the title suggests have been worked into the piece. Naoya left the hill at age eighteen.
