A Thames Journey - Nigel Hess
A Thames Journey is a 10-minute work which follows the journey of the river Thames, from its origins as a few drops of water in Wiltshire to the point where it meets the open sea. Hess draws upon many musical links along the Thames, such as an old Wiltshire melody, morris dancing in Oxfordshire, boating songs from Berkshire. With such rich and diverse sources of music across several counties and centuries, this has quite understandably become one of Hess's most popular wind band works to date.

£37.68Elizabeth Remembered (Wind Band) Debbie Wiseman arr. Andrew Wainwright
Released as a charity single in aid of The Queen's Commonwealth Trust, this sublime work was composed by Debbie Wiseman OBE and performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II after her death in September 2022. This tender and contemplative piece was played many times during the BBC's live coverage of the ceremonies across ten days of national mourning; and the full three-minute piece was played at the end of the Queen's State funeral, following Kirsty Young's emotional final words, and accompanied by a poignant and beautiful montage of images from the events of the day. The piece is now available for wind bands through this arrangement by Andrew Wainwright, with permission kindly granted by Debbie Wiseman. He works as a full-time member of the Luxembourg Military Band "Musique Militaire Grand-Ducale" and serves as a teacher at the music school "Union Grand Duc Adolphe" (U.G.D.A.). In 2016, he successfully completed his Master's degree in Wind Band Conducting with great distinction. With music by George Cory and lyric by Douglass Cross, it became most well-known as the signature song of Tony Bennett. Sahara takes you on a journey to the largest desert in the world. Located in the north of the African continent, it covers eight million square kilometres and spreads across ten nations. The work describes the various landscapes that the Sahara has to offer, using different instrumental groups to underline different characteristics. Both an intense rhythmic passage with lots of percussion, as well as a chorale part with beautiful brass segments, make this a wonderful yet challenging piece. It also allows you to work on different technical aspects with your band and is suitable for a concert or a contest.

Tornado is based on sketches from the Royal Norwegian Naval Forces' Band (SFMK) Composer Workshop with composition students from The Grieg Aacademy in 2012. The working title of the piece, "Workshopping", reflects a young composer on "shopping" for new timbres and effects within the range of instruments and opportunities. The piece starts with a wind from afar (trills and tremolos) which then builds up in block harmony and various fragments that are processed across different keys and harmonies. Tension between chords and dissonances are then pressed up and develops the character and temperament. The title,Tornado, is selected on the basis of the energy and build up,something that can be translated with the weather phenomenon Tornado . Whirl- wind speed translates into the notation with fast tempo, tremolos and technical parts.

This exciting tone poem was inspired by American entrepreneurs of the Industrial Revolution, portraying the dynamic early flour industry in Minneapolis and the dramatic historical events surrounding explosion of the Washburn A Mill. This rhapsodic work features soaring melodic lines, driving rhythms, and interesting parts for each instrument.
