Spirit of Andalusia was commissioned by The Glasgow Wind Band. The brief was to create a fascinating 5-minute opener, however, during the compositional process, the piece started to take the form of a Spanish influenced composition.The composer decided to stick to this involuntary development and started producing a tribute to Spanish music, in particular, Flamenco - which originates from the region of Andalusia. He uses exciting rhythms and colours from the musical culture.

Famed bandmaster Arthur Delamont always programmed a hymn in his concerts and Memento is an homage to that proud tradition. Starting with a simple and reverent solo trumpet and introducing other brass instruments one by one, the introduction has the sound of a brass band. The woodwinds join in and, with the use of rich textures and dynamic scoring, the work builds to a powerful climax and then resolves once again with the solo trumpet. Ideal for festival use, Memento will give your ensemble an opportunity to explore expression and nuance. The second movement of A Tribute to Arthur Delamont, Memento was commissioned by the West Vancouver Youth Band.

Gopak is the first movement of a set of Symphonic Dances written for the Hofstra Unibersity Wind Ensemble, directed by Peter Boonshaft, who commissioned and premiered the work in 2009. Gopak is a tribute to my Polish and Ukrainian roots. My father used to dance traditional Ukrainian dances including the Gopak, and some of my earliest musical memories include the joyful, energetic, and rhythmic feel of those wonderful folk dances.Gopak has a strong feeling of two beats, is accented quite heavily, and is energetic from beginning to end. The melodies are completely original, but the lively feel of the music calls to my mind the energy of the Gopak, notes composer Eric Ewazen.

In 2007, Ewazen was guest composer and commissioned for a new concert band work to celebrate Grand Junction and the towering Grand Mesa that rises above the town. Inspired by this grand landscape, I set out to write a work which was rich, resonant, colorful and bold, a tribute to this amazing scenery which I ultimately had the pleasure of seeing and exploring first hand. The bishop died on 17th March 461 and in Ireland, as a tribute to this remarkable bishop, this date became a national holiday called St. Patrick's Day. St. Patrick's Day, symbolized by the shamrock, is one big party with traditional Irish dancing, parades with highly decorated floats, hundreds of concerts and all kinds of colorful characters on the streets. Symphonic concert work, dedicated to the Bauernkapelle St. Georgen, conductor Johannes Biegler. The concert work "La Citt", which translates as "The City", is a tribute to the district of St. Georgen near Eisenstadt in Austria.The work begins with a majestic introduction in which the main theme is presented. The following Allegro con Spirito. Is intended to symbolize the occupation of the Romans after the birth of Christ. The "St. George's Song", a folk tune arranged in various registers, is heard. Another fast section reminds us once again of the Romans. After a reprise of the opening theme with various solos, the work ends in a grandiose finale with the whole orchestra.

The musical form, typical of the Baroque period, refers to some traditional expressions of art from the land of Sicily: ranging from the rich architecture of the Sicilian Baroque to the colorful majolica ceramics and the characteristic puppets, the "pupi", which narrate a secular tradition.A full immersion into ancient traditions of this beautiful island!
