Honor to the Veterans - Tormod Brufladt
The march "Honour to the Veterans" was the composers third composition ever. He sent this march to Kjell Martinsen, who was the conductor of The Kings Guards Band in Norway. He liked the march so much that it was included on the CD which was releasedin connection with the bands 150 years anniversary. The march is not very difficult. There is a variety of melody lines in the march that differs from many other marches, especially the piccolo flute solo makes it a little bit special. Themarch is also playable for bands lacking a piccolo flute player, because the melody line in this part of the march is well taken care of.

Enjoy - Marco Tamanini
"Enjoy", but also savour, relish: this is not descriptive music, but music to be appreciated. From three points of view: the rhythm of the first movement, the melody of the second and the swing of the third. This piece is characterised by a continuous variation of timbres and colours, in a quest for instrumental solutions that are constantly changing. Examples of this are the main theme in the first movement, which provides the rhythmic backing for the introduction of the third movement, or the sinuous melody of the Bolero, which unravels in a constant development of sounds and timbres.

Music for Junior Wind Band Vol. 3
Another fabulous arrangement from Adrian Taylor of popular tunes for Junior Wind Ensemble. It is not necessary to have all parts being played for these arrangements. Most will work fine with just the two Trumpet/Clarinet parts and a bass line from trombones, tubas or bassoons. With the exception of the bassoon part, all instruments have a part 1 (more advanced and with key signatures) and a part 2 (easier music, lower notes, rarely crossing the break for woodwind players, and without key signatures for treble clef instruments). A piano part is included to help fill out the harmonies for smaller groups.

Western Plains Overture - Keith Michael Davis
Commissioned to commemorate its 20th anniversary season, this work was written for the Nebraska Wind Symphony, Omahas community band, in 1997. It is in traditional overture form, with a bold introductory theme in the horns answered by the trumpets. The material that follows presents the main theme in solo voices followed by the entire band. Contrasting material follows, leading to a recapitulation and eventually to a jubilant coda. While not intentionally programmatic, the title of the work does reflect the bands geographic location.

Twin Oaks Overture - Robert Hendrickson
Developing bands will benefit from the fresh sounding melodies and rhythms presented in this wonderful work. Reminiscent of a gradually awakening morning scene, the quiet opening creates a serene beginning not usually found at this grade level. Instrumental voices are introduced in layers as the opening builds to a lively allegro, suggesting a busy city street. The marvelous programming effects are perfect programming ingredients for developing band performances!

The Tarantula - Barry E. Kopetz
Patient, cunning and sinister. The traits of this fascinating creature are displayed as you hear him stalk his victim! The slow, careful movements of the tarantula are portrayed by precise accents, articulations and steady tempos. The tightly balanced melody, accompaniment and dynamics create a mood of mystery and foreboding. This is not the soundtrack of a horror movie but it could be. Guaranteed to be a favorite, unless youre the prey!

Impulse Power! - Vince Gassi
Impulse power, as a method of propulsion, is considered to be up to one quarter the speed of light. Though the tempo of this engaging work for young bands is not quite as fast as that, it does generate a great deal of energy and momentum. The driving opening gives way to an expressive lyrical section complemented by interesting harmonies before returning to the opening material and a percussive close. The resulting fusion is an exhilarating experience for young musicians.

Aunt Rhodie's Diet - Joseph Compello
Aunt Rhodie's Diet is a sequel to the incredibly popular Aunt Rhodie's Appetite. Both arrangements are novel settings in which a beginning band can perform the standard folk songs found in the first few pages of most band methods. Because they are so easy to play, these arrangements by themselves would not make much of a concert, even for a beginning group. However, when used as incidental music to the story, the songs become sufficiently interesting to the audience, without taxing the capabilities of students who have only been playing for about 10 to 12 weeks.
