The work calls to mind an important event from the history of the city Coesfeld in Germany: the battle of Varlar, which took place in the year 1454. The composition presents us with a bird's eye view of the events: First of all, the consecration of the chapel on the Klinkenberg mountain is set to music in a hymn, after which the trumpets and trombones announce the imminent battle. In the subsequent fray not only the sounds of sabres and rapiers can clearly be heard but also the wailing of the wounded. When the Duke of Brunswick is wounded and captured by the troops of Walraf, Konrad von Diepen and his men march on Coesfeld in victory. Set against a festive melody, the hymn resounds in full glory. 07:00

Volare Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
In 1958, Domenico Modugno (1928-1994) song Nel blu dipinto di blu (or Volare) was the Italian entry at the Eurovision Song Contest. Modugno did not win the contest (he became third) but the song - a true sing-along - turned out to be a worldwide hit. In the course of decades, Volare has been translated into various languages, and performed by many artists of repute, like The Gipsy Kings, Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong, Petula Clark, and David Bowie. ZOO BALL (Score) - Strachan, Keith
Zoo Ball is score in five parts with various transpositions for each voice. Parts 1 & 2 are the Soprano parts. Part 1 should 'outweigh' part 2 in sound, if not in numbers, as it is often divided. Trumpets/Cornets and Clarinets should be divided accordingly between the parts. Part 3 is the Alto part. It is occasionally scored as an individual part but frequently doubles part 2 or 4. Part 4 is the Tenor part. Part 5 is the Bass part and frequently doubles part 4, either in unison or at an octave lower.The Zoo Ball is a suite of twelve light-hearted pieces for the young wind of brass band by Keith Strachan.It can be seen from the titles that the young player is introduced to a variety of dance rhythms that are both fun to play and enjoyable to listen to.It is scored in five parts (some of which divide in places) so can be played by ensembles of aroung ten players up to full band. When a fuller instrumentation is available, teachers and conductors are encouraged to vary the scoring as appropriate, particularly in repeated sections. This incredible story probably makes the words to Amazing Grace! so remarkable, although, Newton can only be credited for the first three verses. This arrangement, although not technically difficult, will require a sustained sound towards the end during its climactic conclusion. It is therefore advisable that the physical demands be understood before commencement so that the correct measurement of exertion can be made throughout the presentation.
