This wedding march originates from the Valdres region in Norway. The municipality of Southern Aurdal is known for its two beautiful Stave churches, probably built around 1160-1190.The wedding march is not among the most well-known of its kind in Norway, but it still has a wonderful melody and a nice rhythmical lilt. Make sure that the tunes are played in a flowing and singing style.

The march "Honour to the Veterans" was the composers third composition ever. He sent this march to Kjell Martinsen, who was the conductor of The Kings Guards Band in Norway. He liked the march so much that it was included on the CD which was releasedin connection with the bands 150 years anniversary.The march is not very difficult. There is a variety of melody lines in the march that differs from many other marches, especially the piccolo flute solo makes it a little bit special. Themarch is also playable for bands lacking a piccolo flute player, because the melody line in this part of the march is well taken care of.

"Enjoy", but also savour, relish: this is not descriptive music, but music to be appreciated. From three points of view: the rhythm of the first movement, the melody of the second and the swing of the third. This piece is characterised by a continuous variation of timbres and colours, in a quest for instrumental solutions that are constantly changing. Examples of this are the main theme in the first movement, which provides the rhythmic backing for the introduction of the third movement, or the sinuous melody of the Bolero, which unravels in a constant development of sounds and timbres.

James Rae is the man who put fun into woodwind and brass teaching. His many compositions, especially in the jazz and blues idioms, have often featured on examination syllabuses. Commissioned to commemorate its 20th anniversary season, this work was written for the Nebraska Wind Symphony, Omahas community band, in 1997. It is in traditional overture form, with a bold introductory theme in the horns answered by the trumpets. The material that follows presents the main theme in solo voices followed by the entire band. Contrasting material follows, leading to a recapitulation and eventually to a jubilant coda. While not intentionally programmatic, the title of the work does reflect the bands geographic location.

Though the tempo of this engaging work for young bands is not quite as fast as that, it does generate a great deal of energy and momentum. The resulting fusion is an exhilarating experience for young musicians.
