£149.40Minnen frn Holmen - Jerker Johansson
The first theme played by the solo clarinet was written by Jerker Johansson the summer 1997, when he was composing in Swedish folk music style for an intended radio programme in which his father should participate reading poems in local dialect. Unfortunately, the project was discontinued. In the spring 2015 Mr. Johansson however started to work on the theme again, this time adding a song theme of broader character. Holmen is the name of the homestead where Mr. Johansson's father Arne grew up. It is beautifully located in the parish of Skrv, situated east of Skara, one of the oldest towns in Sweden. At Holmen, the composer spent his childhood summers and his recollections are filledwith many bright moments and happy memories. The piece was premiered May 22, 2015 by the Gteborg Wind Orchestra conducted by the composer.

£141.60Story Book - Daniele Carnevali
The piece, commissioned in 2001 by the Banda Civica di Soncino, is one of several works that have been specifically written for this prestigious wind orchestra by a number of well-known North European composers. "Story Book" is inspired by a group of tales that are a mixture of history and legend- the former based on historical facts, the latter on traditional beliefs- all connected with life in Soncino (a farming and industrial community in the Cremona plain). The tales are all involves events in the castle (which is still in very good condition) and life at court during the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance period. As the piece develops, it recounts the legend of strange presences in the castle tower (Phantom of the red tower), the bloody battle against invaders (The battle), the foggy landscape and strange female figures seen floating over marshland where there was once a lake (Enchanted lake), and finally the ceremony in the castle's Piazza d'Armi to celebrate victory over the invaders.

Divertimento is an outstanding composition by Roger Boutry for Alto Saxophone and Wind Orchestra. This great work is really nice to play and will enlighten the audience. The Orchestracomposition required is: 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Bassoons, 2 small Clarinets, Clarinet I, Clarinet II, 1 Bass Clarinet, 2 Alto Saxophones, 2 Tenor Saxophones, 1 Baritone Saxophone, 4 Horns, 4 Bb or C Trumpets, 4 Trombone or 3Trombone and an Euphonium, 1 Bb or C Bass, 1 Double Bass, 1 Harp, Timpani, Drum and a Celesta. It is divided into three parts: I. "Allegro ma non troppo", is strongly rhythmic and syncopated.Itincludes a Cadenza by the Solo Saxophone and is written as a tribute to Jazz music. II. "Andante", also includes a Cadenza by the Solo Saxophone but at the end of the section. It is reminiscent of slowerblues ballads. III. This part features few sections by the Solo Saxophone but is specially highlighted its ending, in a bright and fast finale. This volume features the score and parts for all theinstruments. Born in France in 1932, Roger Boutry received numerous prizes, including those for Piano, Composition and Conducting. He received the Grand Prix de Rome in 1954. His career was quite successful,alternating between Harmony professor, composer and conductor. He also received numerous prizes for his incredible compositions.

Bite the Bullet by Mexican-American composer Jorge Machain was named 2019-2020 winner of acclaimed "The American Prize" for music, in addition to being a finalist in the 2018 NBA Revelli competition. The work was inspired by a painting by Venetian artist, Carlo Marchiori, which depicts two 'Pulcinelli' (Venetian clowns) engaged in a gun battle. As the bullets meet in the middle of the scene, a colorful and vibrant cloudburst is created. Using a unique sonic color scheme, the brass and percussion portray the gunshots, while the woodwind flourishes emulate the painter's vibrant brush strokes.Commissined and recorded by the UNLV Wind Orchestra Thomas G. A new acquisition by Bravo Music, this fresh printing of the 1990 masterwork by Yasuhide Ito features a newly engraved score, improved parts, good availability and value. This stirring and powerful homage to early Christianity in Japan profoundly andeloquently states the case of cross-cultural conflict and resolution.Commissioned in 1989 and premiered in 1990 by the Sasebo Band of the Maritime Self-Defense Force of Kyushu, southern Japan.Gloriosa is inspired by the songs of the Kakure-Kirishitan (Crypto-Christians) of Kyushu who continued to practice their faith surreptitiously after the ban of Christianity, which had been introduced to that southern region in the mid-16th century byRoman Catholic missionary Francisco Xavier. The worship brought with it a variety of western music.Though Christianity was proscribed in 1612 by authority of the Tokugawa Shogunate in Edo (today Tokyo), Kakure-Kirishitan continued advocating sermons and disguised songs. Melodies and lyrics such as Gregorian chant were obliged to be "Japanized".For example, the Latin word "Gloriosa" was changed to "Gururiyoza." This adaptation of liturgy for survival inspired Ito to write this piece in order to reveal and solve this unique cultural mystery.The composer explains:"Nagasaki district in Kyushu region continued to accept foreign culture even during the seclusion period, as Japan's only window to the outer world. After the proscription of Christianity, the faith was preserved and handed down in secret in theNagasaki and Shimabara areas of Kyushu region. My interest was piqued by the way in which the Latin words of Gregorian chants were gradually 'Japanized' during the 200 years of hidden practice of the Christian faith. That music forms the basis ofGloriosa."I. OratioThe Gregorian chant "Gloriosa" begins with the words, "O gloriosa Domina excelsa super sidera que te creavit provide lactasti sacro ubere." The first movement Oratio opens with bells sounding the hymn's initial phrases. The movement as a whole evokesthe fervent prayers and suffering of the Crypto-Christians.II. CantusThe second movement, Cantus showcases a brilliant blend of Gregorian chant and Japanese elements by opening with a solo passage for the ryuteki, a type of flute. The theme is based on San Juan-sama no Uta (The Song of Saint John), a 17th-century songcommemorating the "Great Martyrdom of Nagasaki" where a number of Kyushu Christians were killed in 1622.II. Dies FestusThe third and final movement, Dies Festus, takes as its theme the Nagasaki folk song, Nagasaki Bura Bura Bushi, where many Crypto-Christians lived.Gloriosa, fusing Gregorian chant and Japanese folk music, displays the most sophisticated counterpoint yet found in any Japanese composition for wind orchestra.

Sonata da Chiesa - Kees Schoonenbeek
Sonata da Chiesa for organ and wind orchestra is a work in three movements. The first movement presents three melodic lines which are developed in turn. The second movement introduces a theme by Johann Pachelbel followed by several variations on the theme - a technique favoured by Kees Schoonenbeek. The third movement is a neo-Baroque rondo which introduces thematic elements from the first movement. This is a work rich in colour and sound.
