Totally Tropical! is in bright Caribbean mood and will benefit from good, rhythmic playing. Flutes, oboes, clarinets and trumpets all have to play the little chromatic figure that starts the main tune and this may need slow practice to become fluent. Additional percussion instruments may be added to give a 'Calypso' sound.Titles in the Prelude Series are specifically scored for bands with few, if any, bass instruments but will sound well on larger ensembles. The bass line is playable by any combination of bass clarinet, bassoon, baritone saxophone, trombone, euphonium or tuba; in the event that none of these is available, the part for trombone/euphonium (B flat TC) can be played by tenor saxophone. The tuned percussion part is entirely optional and can be played by any available instrument(s). Each piece also includes a preliminary exercise. This is always in the same key as the accompanying piece and consists of a scale and chord progression that can be used for improving ensemble, balance, intonation and instrumental facility by changing tempo, articulation and dynamics.Duration: 1:45

In this four-movement suite, every moment sings of a different type of French wine. All these wines have their origins in the little French village of Savigny-les-Beaune in Burgundy and are made by wine-grower Pierre Guillemot. It was the excellent quality of the wines that inspired Rob Goorhuis into writing this composition. The first three movements deal with three red wines made of the Pinot Noir grape which all bear the Premier Cru designation. The final movement was inspired by a white wine made of Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. Christmas Gloria begins with a snare drum solo snares off which sets the tone for a bolero style arrangement reminiscent of the Little Drummer Boy but based on the all time favorite Pat-a-Pan. The arrangement builds to a climax that brings in the melody of the Gloria section of Angles We Have Heard On High.

Istvn Bogr's series of movements intended for youngsters is colourfully instrumented, evocative music, rich in melodic invention; in character it is most closely akin to Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet music. In the opening movement (Little march), little boys wearing paper shakos on their heads and carrying wooden swords play at soldiers. The following movement, Humming, is the only movement in the suite that is calm and in odd-numbered rhythm; in it the children gather flowers in their little baskets, and meanwhile hum pleasant tunes. The third movement is a funny game, with its tempo sometimes speeding up, sometimes slowing down, but by the end really going wild.The title of the finale is Game of tag. The tiny formal sections and interludes in this lively, cheerful music are linked together by a recurring rondo theme, and the chase ends with a brief coda.
