Musical tale for Narrator and Concert Band."What is essential is invisible to the eye," tells the fox, and the little prince will repeat those words, which emphasize how anything can hide a treasure, a mystery to be unraveled. One must uncover the essence beyond appearances using the heart. The musical story The Little Prince, based on the famous work by Saint-Exupry, addresses both children and adults. Various levels of meanings make the story enjoyable for everyone and offer themes for reflection to people of any age. In the present work, the relationship between words and music creates the magic that accompanies the journey of the little prince among asteroids and planets. Wind band, narrator, and projection of images combine to make the performance a unique experience, which intimately ties narrative, expressive, and communicative aspects. 4 Miniatures for Winds: 1. Wind 2. Storm 3. Rain 4. Sun and Snow There was a little child who enthusiastically told a story ... and a composer who was equally inspired by the child and its story to write these miniatures. At the premier performance of my composition "Arcus" in March 2011, when I explained how a piece about the rainbow came into being, a little girl came up to me and asked: "Thiemo, what about the man in the clouds?" I obviously had forgotten to include him, though he is as the little girl informed me of extreme importance in the sky: "He sits in the clouds and is responsible for the weather. He shakes rain, wind, storm or snow out of the clouds, he pushes them aside to let the sunshine through or he models them into funny figures, making people on earth smile." Fascinated by the girl's ingenuous ideas I created this small composition, sitting in my study and letting my mind wander into the sky. As the man in the clouds naturally has to have a name, I decided to call him "Cloud(iu)s ... man in the clouds". I dedicate this piece to the children of my beginner's band, who show me again and again how wonderful and precious it is to delight in the small things in life ...

£84.00A Child's Garden of Dreams
David Maslanka's A Child's Garden of Dreams for Wind Ensemble, written in 1981, takes inspiration from the writings of Carl Jung, specifically the dreams recounted in Man And His Symbols. Five of the twelve dreams recounted by Jung serve as motifs and titles for the five movements of this composition: 1. There is a desert on the moon where the dreamer sinks so deeply in to the ground that she reaches hell; 2. A drunken woman falls into the water and comes out renewed and sober; 3. A horde of small animals frightens the dreamer. The animals increase to a tremendous size, and one of them devours the little girl; 4. A drop of water is seen as it appears when looked at through a microscope. The girl sees that the drop is full of tree branches. This portrays the origin of the world; and 5. An ascent into heaven where pagan dances are being celebrated; and a descent into hell, where angels are doing good deeds. A Child's Garden of Dreams is a pillar of the standard wind ensemble canon, performerd hundreds of times by a variety of professional and collegiate ensembles and recorded on several critically acclaimed albums. Maslanka has also set the work for full orchestra (C672).

The composer wrote of his work as follows: In the music of Hungary, folk songs are manifestly of great importance, on the other hand our ancient airs and dances play a modest role. For this work I have been influenced by dances of the 17th century, written by unknown amateurs in a relatively simple style. Most of these dances were recorded between the 14th and 18th centuries under the usual form of tablature notation. My interest in this music was first captured in the 1940s. I was so fascinated that I decided to give these melodies new life. I fitted the little eight-bar dances together into ternary and rondo forms, and leaning on early Baroque harmony and counterpoint, I attempted a reminiscence of that atmosphere of the provincial Hungarian Baroque.

£134.99Pastorale de Provence - Franco Cesarini
Cesarini composed this work as a tribute to the memory of Darius Milhaud, born a century earlier in Aix-en-Provence, France. The premiere, conducted by the composer, was presented by the Civic Philharmonic of Balerna in December, 1992. The titles of the four-part suite include: La Villageoise (The Village Maiden), Le petit berger (The Little Shepherd), La Princesse (The Princess) and Le Lutin (The Imp). The numerous musical reference themes begin with five folksongs from the Provence region and continue with melodies written by French composers of the seventeenth century. Additional interest is created by the use of old dance forms (Ronde, Musette, Pavane and Farandole) toillustrate each historical character.

The little known English group Christie became famous overnight in 1970 when they released the record Yellow River. Yellow River is a Vietnam era song (a protest against the Vietnam War) and describes the wish of a soldier at the front to return home. Band leader, singer and composer Jeff Christie initially wrote the song for The Tremoloes, but as the group were uncertain about it he decided to record it himself. The result was a number one hit in over 25 countries! The catchy melody and beat were reason enough for Stefan Schwalgin to create this arrangement for concert band.

In this four-movement suite, every moment sings of a different type of French wine. All these wines have their origins in the little French village of Savigny-les-Beaune in Burgundy and are made by wine-grower Pierre Guillemot. It was theexcellent quality of the wines that inspired Rob Goorhuis into writing this composition. The first three movements deal with three red wines made of the Pinot Noir grape which all bear the Premier Cru designation. The final movement wasinspired by a white wine made of Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. In the nature of their musical material, the various movements not only give a characterisation of the taste of the wines. they also hint at impressions of the respective vineyards andtheir surroundings. 1st Movement Les Narbantons - Giocoso 2nd Movement Les Jarrons - Gracioso 3rd Movement Les Serpentieres - Festivo 4rd Movement Dessus des Golardes - Vivaci.
