Walking the Dog (Clarinet Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Gershwin, George - Bourgeois, Derek
Walking The Dog is one of Gershwin's lighter numbers. It is a clarinet showpiece that is just as much fun as the title suggests. Taken from the movie Shall We Dance, staring none other than the great Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Walking The Dog catches George Gershwin at the very height of his powers. Rather than the bustling, complex symphonic scores he was by-now accustomed to knocking out, it's a simple, elegant little stroll, as the title suggests. In fact, in the 1937 film, it accompanies a scene of dog-walking, aboard the luxury deck of an ocean liner. Since its use in the film, though, the song has taken on a life of its own and become a popular showing-off piece for clarinettists everywhere. Interestingly, it's also the only section of score from the whole of Shall We Dance that remains - the rest of the movie's music remains sadly unpublished.Duration: 3.00

Parade of the Clockwork Soldiers (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
This piece was inspired by the composer watching his young son, Benny, playing 'soldiers' with his collection of teddy bears - how appropriate! But it made him think of the many character pieces which take the form of a 'toy march', the most notable examples being by Haydn, Tchaikovsky and Leon Jessel. Parade of the Clockwork Soldiers is in the form of a 'patrol' (starting and ending quietly with a louder middle) and aims to represent a band marching past the listener. In fact, where the hall layout permits it, it could be possible to add a little choreography to the piece, starting and ending with only a few instruments on stage.Duration: 4:30

Love in the Garden Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
The most important work by the Russian composer Modest Moussorgsky (1839-1881) is undoubtedly his masterly opera Boris Godunov. A number of years after the composer's death, this opera was re-orchestrated by Rimsky-Korsakov, with his romantic version being quiet different from the original score by Moussorgsky. 'Love in the Garden' is a lovely quiet moment from the opera, a beautiful duet between Marina and Dmitri. Add a little romance to any concert with this attractive arrangement for concert band. 0:03:40

I Say A Little Prayer - Burt Bacharach
This bittersweet song from 1967 is a real classic, partly due to the rendition by two queens of soul, Dionne Warwick and later also Aretha Franklin. The theme was very topical at the time: A woman is concerned about her husband fighting in the Vietnam War, and thinks about him during her day-to-day worries. Top arranger Peter Kleine Schaars created a tasteful and carefully orchestrated version. His arrangement stays true to the original colour and feel of the song, and, as a grade 3 piece, is still perfectly playable for most bands.

The Golden Knights - Alice Gomez
Written as a tribute to the Army Paratrooper team, this tuneful, mid-tempo march contains interesting parts for each section, with a short drum break before the trio that makes the piece a good choice for a little feature for the percussion section as well.

Bach To the Future - Jerry Williams
You'll quickly fall in love with this great little rock tune based on a very famous melody by J.S. Bach. First stated by the woodwinds in a legato 3/4 style, the melody soon is revamped in 4/4 and a medium rock style. Excellent materials for the end of the first year or second year students. Very attractive as a concert piece. This theme will be familiar to your concert audience.
