Volatus - Brian Beck
From the Latin word for flight, Volatus captures the art of soaring above the clouds. The higher one climbs, the more there is to see. Lift-off begins with stately brass motives and sparkling percussion, then it is up, up, and away with woodwind flourishes. With angular harmonies, driving rhythms in mixed meters, and static percussive effects, this piece has something for everyone to enjoy. (2:40)

Rephrygeration - Todd Stalter
A dynamic concert opener or closer cast almost entirely in the Phrygian mode. The half steps that make this scale mode so unique are celebrated both in a melodic and harmonic sense, with aggressive low brass figures, crisp and rhythmic percussion, and winding passages in the woodwind. (2:50)

Urban Song - John Philip Hannevik
Storbystev has a catchy tune, and incorporates a mix of funk-, samba- and rock rythms. The alto saxophone and trumpet are featured as soloists, but the piece also show-cases the tuba- and percussion sections. The piece works especially well as a concert opener (or the first piece after an interval). One can start the piece with only the triangle-player on stage, and the rest of the band can take their places and join in when ready.Storbystev was written for the Oslofjord Brass Band and their participation in the Siddis Brass entertainment contest in Stavanger in 1996. The band won the first section that year.Published with support from Norwegian Society of Composers.

Panopticon Rising - Ralph Ford
The title implies "all watching," hinting to the mythological Greek Watchman Panoptes and "opticon" for watching. This original contemporary composition opens with an unassuming docile theme. The transparency is rapidly replaced with driving tutti components that furiously depict a vividly punctuated theme. Reminiscent passive melodies interrupt occasionally, building to an uncompromising conclusion. With a vivid percussion contribution, this energy-packed composition is unparalleled. Bravo! (5:30)
