This work falls into three movements, all concerned with the subject of the Italian capital city of Rome, rather like previous tributes to other European citites in Paris Sketches, Venetian Spells and The Cries of London. The emphasis is on atmosphere and drama, be they respectful or joyful! It is acknowledged that Ottorino Respighi has influenced this work though his own eternal Rome tributes are not challenged here, rather saluted and celebrated.The three movements are: 1. Collosea di Romaan evergrowing march mood, builds in intensity and density as we approach the mighty Colosseum, the amphitehatre of Classical Rome, where deadly spectacles were once played out. We should not forget that countless thousands died here whilst even more laughed in the name of entertainment: their memory is reflected in the coda. In its unique way this icon of Rome is one of the most tragic historical places.2. Capella Sistinathe Sistine Chapel of the Vatican City is observed in a series of chorales and interludes. The visitor can look 360o around and be presented with a series of Biblical representations and commentaries. The music attempts to reflect these contrasting panels whilst ultimately bowing to the glory of this magnificent artistic creation. The coda is enigmatic, inconclusive - a single viewing cannot reveal all the mysteries and beauties within. 3. Fonatani di Trevitime for laughter and fun! The Trevi Fountain is one of Rome's finest and visually overboard locations! This is indicated as a Burletta: 'a la dolce vita' which means 'the sweet life'. This burletta (meaning 'little joke') makes use of tarantella and saltarello rhythms and features a pair of tambourines which are associated with these forms. The 330-meter-tall Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Originally built as a temporary structure for the 1889 World's Fair, it was meant to symbolize the technological and industrial advancements of the 19th century. Construction began in 1887 and was completed in 1889, just in time for the fair, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. Over two years, around 300 workers assembled the 18,038 iron pieces.Until the 1930s, the Eiffel Tower, standing at 330 meters, was the tallest structure in the world and was considered a triumph of engineering. The protagonist, Daniel Sempere, is the teenage son of an antiquarian book dealer, who one day takes him to the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a mysterious place with labyrinthine corridors where rare and banned books are stacked in massive dusty piles. His father tells Daniel to select a book, but it will be his responsibility to protect it. Daniel picks La Sombra del Viento (The Shadow of the Wind), a novel by a forgotten author Julin Carax. Daniel immediately starts reading the book, and the story unwinds itself into a compelling and complicated plot. As he reads, Daniel finds himself and his own life merging into the story's plot. It transpires that there is a mysterious man named Lan Coubert ('the man without a face') who is determined to destroy all copies of Carax's books. Daniel is threatened by Coubert and is determined to find out what happened to Carax, who fled to Paris and subsequently disappeared. Daniel finds that his own life has much in common with the author's. The book mixes magic realism, page-turning mystery, and Daniel's own real life. Daniel's once ordinary teenage existence is now filled with larger-than-life colorful and at times, terrifying characters. Among them are Fermn Romero de Torres, a beggar who Daniel and his father befriend and employ in the family bookstore; the evil police inspector Javier Fumero, who could be compared to Scarpia in Puccini's opera Tosca or Javert in Les Misrables. The corrupt Fumero uses the war as an excuse to practice his sadism and is widely feared in Barcelona. He is represented in the music by a fascist military march. The city of Barcelona becomes a character in the book and in the music. The Ramblas, the boulevard running through Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and the famous caf Els Quatre Gats (the four cats) come alive in the score through a Cobla, the traditional wind ensemble playing a sardana, typical Catalan folk music. Two parallel love stories turn up the heat: Julin Carax's passionate, forbidden love for Penlope, and Daniel's equally passionate and forbidden love for Beatriz (Bea). £78.50Bleak Forest - Andreas Ziegelbäck
Bleak Forest is a piece for smaller concert bands and offers the musicians above all space to improve their sound and their effect playing. The technical requirements are therefore deliberately kept low. With this piece, the composer won the VLAMO International Composition Contest 2022.Thematically, the work is influenced by the composer's childhood memories. In his hometown there was a dark and mysterious forest, that seemed to the children in the small village to be magical. Without a reasonable explanation, every trip into the woods was exciting and somewhat terrifying. There were tales of dangerous animals, which can be heard at the beginning of the piece, as well as magical beasts. The magic of the forest is depicted musically from bar 70 in the andante section. The snapping of the fingers represents single raindrops. From bar 99 onwards, we hear the trek home, with the occasional moments of trepidation as the children spook each other with their fanciful tales. In the end, though, we arrive safely at home because after all, magical beasts only exist in fairy tales... don't they?Andreas Ziegelbck studied music education at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, and history at the Paris Lodron Universitt, Salzburg. In addition to his studies, he trained in ensemble conducting for wind orchestra with conductor and composer Thomas Doss. It was Doss who sparked Ziegelbck's interest in composing. In 2021, Andreas Ziegelbck completed his composition studies with Johannes Maria Staud. In 2020, he took part in a brass band composition masterclass in Bern with Oliver Waespi, followed by a premiere by the Swiss Army Brass Band.

Csar Franck, composer, pianist, organist and music teacher, completed Cupid and Psych, his sixth and last symphonic poem in 1887. It was first performed in Paris in 1888 and was a complete success, but the piece later fell completely into oblivion, and it was only thanks to some meticulous research that it has returned to concert halls. The intricate love affair between Psyche and Cupid is an original story of the Metamorphoseswritten in the 2nd century AD by Apuleius. The tale is about overcoming obstacles in love and their final union. The symphonic poem is divided into three parts and calls for a choir. The movement that is the subject of this arrangement, Psych et rosis positioned at the end of the second part.Franco Cesarini's version for wind orchestra carefully illustrates the nuances of the instrumental colours, and represents a real test aimed at demonstrating the musicality and interpretative skills of orchestras and their conductors.

Queen Cleopatra ruled Egypt for over 20 years. She is one of antiquity's best-known women, in particular because of her relationships with Julius Caesar and, above all, Mark-Anthony, but also because the cause of her death remains a mystery. The work is split into three parts and performed without breaks. The first section begins with a bright introduction representing Mark-Anthony. Dynamic in nature and reminiscent of military music, this characterises the Roman general. But soon after, another theme emerges, softer and more melodic, symbolising Cleopatra's femininity. The two characters then combine on a faster tempo. The middle section of the work depicts the love that Mark-Anthony and Cleopatra feel for each other. This passionate relationship lasted ten years and produced three children. This is expressed by a warm and intense theme, just like the beauty of the Egyptian queen. The third and last section opens in a determined and military mood. Mark-Anthony and Cleopatra were often apart, the Roman general was often away on a campaign. They met up in Alexandria to celebrate their triumph. But, as the targets of the jealousy and ambition of Octavius, Julius Caesar's son, the lovers are trapped and await the inevitable conquest of Egypt by the Romans. When Mark-Anthony heard the false news that Cleopatra had committed suicide, he ended his own life. The Queen of Egypt, for her part, was imprisoned shortly afterwards. The two lovers remain one of History's most famous couples. This piece was commissioned by the Wind Orchestra of the town of Antony, near Paris, directed by Philippe Rossignol, to mark its 90th anniversary.

He uses the French children's song Au Clair de la Lune as a connecting thread throughout the work.
