£204.00The Light of Resistance - Franco Cesarini
Franco Cesarini was commissioned to write The Light of Resistance by the Filarmonica di Villadossola APS (Piedmont, Italy) for its 125th anniversary. The Villadossola revolt was an uprising that took place in November 1943 in the homonymous municipality during World War II. The partisans, with the support of local workers, managed to temporarily liberate the town from nazi-fascist forces. It was one of the first acts of armed resistance against the German occupation in Italy but was harshly repressed by nazi-fascist troops who regained control of the territory. Although it was suppressed, the uprising remained a symbol of courage and determination. The slow introduction of the composition creates an atmosphere of latent tension, which gradually intensifies until it explodes in a rapid movement, symbolizing the struggle. Two contrasting musical themes collide, embodying the conflict between opposing forces. In the central section, a prayer rises delicately, then evolves into a heroic parade celebrating the temporary triumph of the revolt. However, this victory is fleeting; dissonant harmonies interrupt the scene, representing the brutal repression of the insurrection. In the finale, the heroic theme reemerges, evoking sacrifice as a spark of unshakeable hope. A moment of contemplation closes the composition, honouring the lives broken and reaffirming hope for a future of peace and regained freedom. The premiere of The Light of Resistance took place on 30th March, 2025 in Villadossola, performed by the Filarmonica di Villadossola, Franco Cesarini conductor.

£75.50Essence of Memory - BJ Brooks
In the fall of 2021, as occurs countless times across the United States, band director Darin Johns was traveling with his marching band to a Friday night football game. Tragically, a wrong-way driver struck the Andrews Band bus, taking the lives of both Darin and the bus driver. Over the next few months, tributes to Darin came in waves, culminating in a 1,000-member parade with 30 different bands at Christmastime. The Association of Texas Small-School Bands, of which Darin and the Andrews Band were a part, commissioned me to write a piece in honor of Mr. Johns. The music reflects the waves of memory that one experiences when contemplating the deepest of thoughts. First nebulous, sometimes sharply focused, resonating motifs, highs and lows. The four-chord chaconne figure is the unifying core of the work. It grounds the various melodies as they enter and return, sometimes densely paired, sometimes transparently isolated. The themes are structured as an arch form ABCBA, but as they recur, they are added together, giving them more density, as if the memories overlap, before the calmness, first heard as an ethereal haze, recurs.

£109.99A Little Suite of Horror - Thomas Doss
A Little Suite of Horror is an easy suite for beginner bands, consisting of five contrasting movements. With this piece it is also possible to pick and choose only a few movements to showcase at a concert as well. The story behind this composition is somewhat grim and ghoulish, so prepare your musicians and audience for a nerve-wracking experience!Friday the 13th: A day unlike any other runs its mysterious course...Midnight Scene: Footsteps, creaking, and the hoot of an owl precede the twelve strokes of midnight ringing from the steeple. Suddenly, a fairy-like apparition appears in the room.Wurdalak: "Wurdalak" is a vampiresque creature roaming aboutthe Slavic countries. A single bite makes entire villages cower and tremble in fear. Voodoo: Performing voodoo rituals has enchanted many a human over the years. Halloween Party March: Jack-o-lanterns, skeletons, zombies, and other creepy characters march down the street. Is anyone brave enough to join this haunted parade?

£104.99Call of the Valley - Jacob de Haan
The inspiration for this three-part work goes back to the International European Youth Wind Music Festival, of which the patron has been Jacob de Haan several times. It begins in a festive march tempo, then sacred music, instrumental groups playing off_x005F_x001E_stage and a little march for brass and _x005F_x001D_flutes. The third movement is a parade in which the various sections of the ensemble head towards the stage from different directions. Even without the effective choreography of the musicians, Call of the Valley is an impressive concert band composition.

Aardvark Parade - Graydon A. Toms
You can almost smell the aardvarks! Oh, no, wait. The kids had P.E. just before band rehearsal. Never mind.Seriously though, this cheerful and engaging new piece by Graydon Toms is a sure winner for every Grade 1 1/2 band. Big areas of contrast between the upper Woodwinds and the Brass and Saxophone combination ensure that each player feels important to the group, while an easy change of tempo near the end helps the piece sound harder than it plays.Whimsical!
