£74.99Free Spirit Overture - Jerry Williams
The perfect overture for smaller bands. Sounds much more difficult than it really is and it's scored to minimize problems caused by less than a perfect instrumentation. This energetic, forceful overture with a lyrical middle section that is second to none at this grade level.

£123.95Symphonic Overture - Charles Carter
Symphonic Overture is a contemporary-sounding overture of medium difficulty so scored that it can be performed with equal success by large and small groups alike. Employing the familiar three-part form (A-B-A), the opening section has a theme which is robust in character and with considerable rhythmic interest. The second theme, slow and expressive in character is a free form based on an opening idea introduced by the first flute. At the return of the first section, the first theme is treated as a fugue subject building to great heights as all four entrances are achieved. As the exposition concludes, the contrapuntal texture gives way to a homophonic quality which closes the piece. The coda, as is characteristic, utilizes material from the first theme.

Bandanna Overture - Daron Aric Hagen
Bandanna is the extraordinary opera commissioned by a consortium of 79 members of the College Band Directors National Association, and premiered at the CBDNA convention in Austin, TX on February 28, 1999. This overture is not a part of the opera, but an independent concert work created by the composer for concert performance. A brilliantly scored composition, that has already been adopted by the Texas UIL Prescribed Music List, Overture to "Bandanna" features many musical ideas from the opera including the wonderful melody that brings audiences to their feet. This idea also forms the climax of "Wedding Dances". Duration: 9'

Windermere Overture - Chris Sharp
Windermere Overture captures the grandeur of the largest lake in England by the same name. The short introduction quickly builds to the stately theme of the work. The middle section, while at the same tempo, explores a lighter texture and is generally orchestrated by instrument family. As the changing timbres continue to develop, the main theme returns, bringing the piece to a triumphant ending. A great overture that is easy to put together!

£139.99Sdwind Overture - Ferrer Ferran
The idea for Sdwind Overture arose during dinner with the conductor Werner Buchmann and a few members of his band. Ferrer Ferran accepted the commission to write the work and asked Mr. Buchmann jokingly to sing him a motif offive notes that would serve as the leitmotif of the composition. Starting from these five notes (Ab, B, D#, E, F), the composer has created Sdwind Overture - the result is a fantastic musical achievement that shows a great senseof imagination. Dur: 7:00

£140.80An Indoor Overture - Willem Strietman
In 1964 I met the American composer, conductor, pianist and educationist Aaron Copland (1900-1990) who was in The Netherlands during an European concert tour. I keep most pleasant memories of his performances and of our conversations. In memory of that great man I made in 1995 a new version of a small composition that I had written in 1970 for the Silver Jubilee of the Metropole Orchestra (of the Dutch Radio Institution) and that was called 'An Indoor Overture'. This short work is a kind of answer to Copland's 'An Outdoor Overture' (1938) in which also light and serious music are harmoniously mixed.Willem Strietman

£99.99Dramatic Overture (US Air Force 80th Anniv.) - James Barnes
Dramatic Overture is a lively, celebratory piece commissioned to mark the 80th anniversary of the band. It begins with a stark, powerful introduction of the main theme by the trombones and percussion, soon joined by the other brass before the music moves into a dance-like allegro section. Dramatic brass statements, scampering woodwinds and long, soaring melodies dominate this allegro section until the band slows once again, to present a dramatic fanfare based on the basic intervals of the opening theme. The work then ends with a flashy, energetic coda.

£79.99Christmas Overture - Samuel Coleridge-Taylor
Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's Christmas Overture appeared posthumously in 1925. Originally orchestrated by Sydney Baynes, it features God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Hark the Herald Angels Sing. It is thought by some to have been put together from incidental music he wrote for a children's play called The Forest of Wild Thyme. This band arrangement, based on Baynes' orchestra score, omits the largely developmental middle section of the original, shortening the performance time by two minutes, while retaining all of the traditional carol material.

£99.99Overture con Spirito - Thomas Doss
This work was commissioned by the Musikverein Prechtal e. V. (Germany) for its 100th anniversary in the year of 2021. The composition opens with a powerful rhythmic motif, which soon develops into the main theme of this brisk overture. The unwavering, joyful melodies and a positive atmosphere give the work a high-spirited energy. The strong pulse has the music firmly in its grasp and only quietens gradually in a pensive middle movement that seems to emanate from another world. This atmospheric passage can evoke dreamy thoughts and a variety of visions. But then the liveliness of the previous motifs returns, to take us back to the vivacious here and now, full of optimism and determination for the hundred years to come. On to a wonderful future!
