Comegys Creek - Brian Beck
Kick off your shoes, jump in, and ride down Comegys Creek. This North Texas creek is named after Dr. C. G. Comegys, a prominent family who lived in Mckinney, TX in the early 1900s. Composer and fellow Texan, Brian Beck captures the southern rowdiness of frolicking in the water with friends and family. Comegys Creek is a fun piece that will expand your student's harmonic vocabulary and is perfect for introducing and reinforcing accidentals that create interesting harmonies, all within a comfortable range. It also explores the many permutations of the 8th and 16th note combinations, as well as introduces and reinforces 7/8 time signature. Groups performing this piece will become "multi-meter masters" in no time! (2:24).

1944 - Alex Poelman
At the end of 1944, Allied troops invaded the Netherlands from Belgium. Hope and longing for freedom, which now seemed so close, swept through the Netherlands: Operation Market Garden was launched. Huge numbers of paratroopers made the dangerous jump to take over enemy territory on the south side of the Rhine. Fierce fighting and attempts to cross and secure the river resulted in heavy casualties for the liberating forces. Ground support from the south came too late and there was no alternative but to call off Operation Market Garden. What looked like a quick liberation of the Netherlands turned into a long, bitter struggle. To make matters worse, a harsh winter followed: hunger and cold ate away at hope and the prospect of a liberated Netherlands. The composition 1944 uses original radio fragments from 1944 to describe these events.Download the electronic sounds:fragmentADownload the electronic sounds:fragmentBDownload the electronic sounds:fragmentCDownload the electronic sounds:fragmentD

Stratosphere - Otto M. Schwarz
What do the American Joseph Kittinger and the Austrian Felix Baumgartner have in common? They both jumped from over 30km high with a parachute. While Kittinger's attempt on 16 August 1960 was from a height of 'only' 31,333 meters, Felix Baumgartner broke this record on 14 October 2012 with a breath-taking 38,969 meters. This composition Stratosphere describes the adventure, from climbing into the capsule with help of a balloon, to the short pause in the stratosphere, and the jump, the turbulence during the free-fall descent, and finally the opening of the parachute and the safe landing.
