Invasion of the Christmas Crabs (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Lopez, Victor
Even though it's not about the holiday, Christmas Crabs is inspired by the annual migration of literally millions of crabs on Christmas Island in Australia. There's a nod to a holiday favorite but most of the piece musically depicts the awkward movement of these exoskeletal creatures. A creative work for your first-year students! Duration: 1.45

O Most Wonderful (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Reed, Alfred
This Christmas carol of ancient European origin begins O Sanctissima and was intended as a tribute to the virgin Mary. A 19th-century translation by Falk gave us the words O How Joyfully that are typically associated with this carol. In addition to its colourful history, this carol has a very warm and expressive character. In this setting by Alfred Reed, the lilting melody is interwoven with a heroic trumpet counter-melody.Duration: 2.00

Salute to the Colors
This long-lost march is one of Karl King's most tuneful and toe-tapping works. With melodic and interesting parts for all sections, it's a perfect march for mid-level bands. The trio is pure Karl King, wonderfully lyrical and complete with a nice euphonium part. Sounds like a million bucks! This is a terrific march for concert, festival, or contest use. Audiences will love it!

The Winds of Power (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hess, Nigel
After a dark and menacing opening a solo trumpet introduces a theme which will eventually become the centre of a piece and is soon heard tutti in a lyrical form. This is interrupted by a return to the opening mood, with only a brief respite in the form of a chorale for clarinet choir and harp. The theme tries to return once more in a rousing, somewhat cinematic version, but again the sense of foreboding overtakes it. An unsettling march-like section follows before the theme returns in its most lyrical and gentle guise, introduced by solos in the woodwind section. Eventually, a maestoso statement which erupts into a presto coda, ends the journey in a triumphant, more optimistic blaze of sound.Duration: 10.00

The luminous scoring is designed to show the band to its best advantage. The 6/8 meter of most of the piece is ideal for representing the flow of the river's steady progress to the sea.

The Eagle's Quest - Philip Sparke
The Eagle's Quest was commissioned by Brevik Musikkorps (Norway) to mark the 400th anniversary of the birth of Cort Adeler, a renowned Norwegian-Dutch sailor who was born in the town of Brevik in 1622. His Dutch name Adelaer means 'eagle'. This work celebrates his life but is not programmatic, simply reflecting Brevik's pride in one of its most famous sons. Towards the end of the piece there is a brief quotation from the town song, Brevikssangen, which is a fitting and captivating conclusion.
