£149.99Southend Celebration - Philip Sparke
The work opens with a stern fanfare in bare fifths, which leads to a cantabile theme introduced by alto saxophone. This builds to a climax and reintroduces the fanfare, which slowly evolves into the subsequent vivo. A perky tune emerges on flute, saxophone and trumpet, which, after a short bridge passage, leads to a contrasting melody on low clarinets and saxophones. After some development a true 'second subject' appears for the whole band. A recapitulation leads briefly back to the opening fanfare before the vivo returns to close the work in celebratory mood.

£72.99Lament and Tribal Dances - Michael Sweeney
Commissioned by the Iowa Bandmasters Association, this dynamic work from Michael Sweeney is written in three contrasting sections. The opening Lament features a plaintive horn melody and expansive harmonies. The mood then shifts to an intensely rhythmic dance using an unusual modal scale. In the final section, the flutes switch to recorders and a driving percussion ostinato figure helps propel this magnificent piece to a dramatic ending. A rewarding and satisfying work from one of today's best composers for young bands.

£144.99Tetraktys - Klaas Coulembier
Tetraktys, named after a mathematical concept of Pythagoras, is a festive and varied work, composed for the tenth anniversary of the Ghent University Wind Band. A mysterious introduction paves the way for a driving allegro, in which all sections of the orchestra are featured. The slow middle part offers a moment of repose, introduced by a lyrical theme presented by the clarinet section. After a brief recollection of the fast movement, the mood shifts into a swinging big band-style passage, that leads directly into the finale.

£113.30Fantasy For Winds - Lorenzo Pusceddu
The piece opens with a sumptuous celebratory fanfare dominated by the brass section. In the following Allegro, the woodwind instruments weave their graceful melodious plots, with occasional intense interruptions by the brass section. The piece continues with Valzers where the initial melancholic mood set by the woodwind is superseded by the brass section harkening back to modal musical mode before, once more, being taken up by the woodwind instruments. The piece closes with a gently expressive Andante. The gentle delicacy of this section moves to a moderate Allegro featuring a running dance with light-hearted irregular rhythm. The return to the opening fanfare brings us back to the anniversary celebrations of the Band and a solemn final sequence to the composition. The debut performance took place under the direction of the composer at the Gala Concert on March 28, 2009.

£82.50Tribute - David Gorham
As the title indicates, this work was written to honor the memory of a band parent who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Opening with solemn and respectful material, the piece is both moving and expressive. As the work unfolds, the mood gradually ascends, almost visibly brightening, creating an uplifting feeling of hope and triumph. This wonderfully musical work will enhance any program with its expressive qualities that remind the listener of the strength of the human spirit to endure in the face of tragedy and sadness.
