£90.30Glenn Meets Wolfgang - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
JEF PENDERS (Hoensbroek 1928) is also a very popular Dutch wind band music composer who also does a great job as conductor, arranger and recording supervisor. In his novelty Glenn meets Wolfgang (1969) he arranged the tune of Mozart's 'Sonate Facile' into the Glenn Miller style. It proved to be a successful formula as this piece was followed by 'Glenn beats the Battle of Jericho', 'Glenn plays after the Ball' and, more recently, 'Glenn mucks about with the clarinet'. The traditional Mexican 'mariachi' music is a festive and exuberant type of music that puts you in a good mood. One of those traditional themes is La Bamba which has been sung and recorded by several singers, such as Trini Lopez, and consequently became very famous. In the sixties and seventies you could hardly imagine a party or ball without this endlessly repeated 'Bamba', a round dance with opportunity to kiss the ladies.

Commissioned by the NIB, the Dutch Wind Music Institute, with the financial support of the 'Fonds voor de scheppende Toonkunst'.CommentaryThis suite brings us back to the 18th century when an important part of the musical life took place in the salons, the favorite quarters of monarchs and important people.There is a ball and we can hear the music in four successive short movements.1. Entree. After an opening fanfare we see the solemn reception of the guests. The composer uses some 17th century musical principles such as the echo dynamics.2. Invitation a la Danse. The guests proceed to the ballroom and are officially introduced. This movement has a 'classical' character.3. Chiaconna. A solemn dance of Spanish origin with a single theme that is repeated with different embellishments and accompaniments.4. Danse Finale. A cheerful dance announces the departure of the guests, but, for sure, the feast will have lasted much longer than this suite.

No doubt, Jef Penders has a slight preference for Glenn Miller's music. After compositions such as Glenn meets Wolfgang, Glenn beats the Battle of Jericho, Glenn mocks about with the Clarinet and Glenn plays after the Ball, here is a fine arrangement in the Glenn miller style of the famous Negro Spiritual Swing low Sweet Chariot. An excelent mixture of two styls with the usual gift of Maestro Jef Penders.
