This programmatic composition depicts the history and events around the former Roman city of Flavia Solva. It was situated in the southeast province Noricum, the current region of Southern Styria, Austria. In this work, the composer portrays the grandness of the city, the beauty of its surrounding landscape, the hustle and bustle of the market place, the dangers therein and eventually the destruction by the Germanic people in the 2nd century AD. Flavia Solva was rebuilt to become a flourishing city again, but in the 5th century, its decline became a permanent reality, a fate that it shared with other cities of the Roman empire. The walls of Babylon, the Great Wall of China, the limes of the Roman Empire and the Berlin Wall are just a few examples of the walls mankind has built over past centuries. Today, building walls remains an issue, often under the pretext of 'protection' against intruders.This idea inspired Otto M. Schwarz to write a piece about the Roman limes between Germania and Rhaetia. From around 150 to 260 AD the wall faced numerous attacks. This programmatic work describes the events as they happened a long time ago, and addresses hope that these events belong to the past forever. The Wall is a work full of action in all-instrumental groups.This is an impressive piece with strong musical images, perfect for a contest or as an apotheosis in your concert.

This 4-movement suite tells the story of the beautiful French town 'Tulle' that was built on seven hills, just like Rome and Lisbon. The composer depicts the history of the town, as well as important events such as the bloodbath during World War II, the fabric 'tulle' after which the town is named and the festive annual fair. Since Tulle is also known for the production of Accordions, the composer added an 'ad libitum' Accordion part. A really charming and stylish concert or contest work!

£228.70Pulsar - The Metamorphosis of a Star - John Brakstad
4th July in 1054 AD one of the most spectacular events was witnessed in the Cosmos. A massive star blew out; a supernova explosion.From the Earth it appeared as a new, bright star; the most brilliant in the sky. It was visible for three weeks, also in daylight, before it then faded away.But what was left of it is spectacular. Today we call it the "Crab Nebula".And in the very centre of the Nebula lies the remnant of the star; the core crushed by the force of gravity.This is a rotating neutron star, a pulsar, just 20 kilometres across, but so dense that it weighs more than our sun.As the neutron star spins, ejected particles stream out from its poles at almost the speed of light.These jets create powerful beams that sweep around as the star rotates.When the beams sweep across the Earth, they can be heard as regular pulses. We call them pulsars.In this piece there are three percussion parts. In addition there is an "optional part" to replace the marimba and vibraphone written in the three original percussion parts if desired. This fourth part is shown in the full score.

Originally written for Flugelhorn and band but it can be played on any instrument.Solo parts are written in many keys.The soloist may start playing (ad lib.) before falling into the melody and then the rest of the band will follow.Perhaps you can introduce a guest star to play while walking in to the stage (from the audience?). Questo brano stato scritto in occasione del 150mo anniversario di fondazione del Corpo Musicale di Settimo Torinese. Se vogliamo fare un paragone con l'arte pittorica, si tratta di un trittico, cio l'insieme di tre distinti quadri, ciascuno dei quali rappresenta un aspetto significativo della citt di Settimo Torinese. Il primo quadro, che si rif ad alcune formule stilistiche della "marcia", rappresenta la Banda, che da 150 anni simbolo ed espressione "sonora" della comunit. Il secondo quadro, di carattere pi intimistico, rapprenta la Chiesa e si ispira allo stile del "corale", pur non avendone la canonica forma. Il terzo ed ultimo quadro rappresenta invece la Torre e quindi, non solo le istituzioni che governano la citt, ma anche i cittadini che vivono all'ombra di essa: da qui il tema popolare e lo stile di "danza" che lo caratterizza.

Ugo Papurello, president of the ''I Filarmonici'' band from San Carlo Canavese (Turin), commissioned this piece to celebrate the group's twentieth anniversary. The opening fanfare is an eloquent and fitting introduction to a solemn celebration. It is followed by the allegro, which has a modal feel and is characterised by a succession of rhythms representing the liveliness ad enthusiasm that have always characterised this band. The andante symbolises a moment of reflection and nostalgic reminiscence. The allegro is repeated as an expression of the hope that the band will continue to set itself increasingly ambitious goals. The fanfare brings back the joyous atmosphere of this special occasion and sets a formal seal on the band's twentieth anniversary.
