Highland Celebration - Alan Lee Silva

Written with the lilt and flavor of the Scottish Highlands, this original Alan Lee Silva piece is a joyous new addition to the concert band repertoire. The pulsing 6/8 rhythms are contrasted by momentary feelings of 3/4, as the melody floats over punctuated harmonies. This piece contains contrast, with a slower middle section featuring a divine flute melody, accompanied by the sound of "bagpipe" drones in the other voices. This grand Scottishstyle melody develops to a climax before the wistful return of the main theme, and an up-tempo coda completes the piece.

    Febesa - Filip Ceunen

The title of this work, Febesa, refers to the four notes it is based on: F, E, Bflat (BES in Dutch) and A. At the beginning of the work, the sound of these notes creates a mysterious, extraordinary atmosphere. The work slowly builds from the low brass as the thematic torch is handed to the woodwind section and this leads into a grand tutti. In a tonal and refreshing allegro, the febesa-theme now has a more harmonic role. After this passage, the symmetric form of the work brings us back to the mysterious atmosphere of the introduction, with solos for euphonium, oboe and flute.

    Wolf Dancers - Pete Havely

The Ritual of the Wolf was an important winter ceremony of the native people of the Pacific Northwest, inspired by their belief in the wolf as a supernatural creature. In this evocative work, the sound of tribal drums recreates the atmosphere of the solemn ceremony. El Paso Montanesa - Kees Vlak

This four part suite in Spanish style is named after the second part, the most romantic of the four movements. It pictures a pastoral Spanish mountain village awakening by the sound of the church bells on a Sunday morning. The first part is, of course, a pasodoble and needs no comment. The third part is a Zortzico, a solemn old Spanish dance, written in a 5/8 meter. The final part is a Fandango, an exciting dance of the Spanish gipsies.

Sunrise at Angel's Gate - Philip Sparke

This piece depicts the refined beauty of the Grand Canyon at sunrise and sunset. These are the best times to view the Canyon with the sun low in the sky casting shadows that give depth and form to the vast panorama. Angel's Gate is one of the many named rock formations in the canyon. The composer has tried to depict the sights and sounds of dawn, birdsong in the early morning sky and the gradual revelation of the Canyon itself as sunlight reaches into its rocky depths.Towards the end of the piece, to the sound of a tolling bell, we are however reminded of the dangers that the beauty of the Grand Canyon so cleverly hides.

Concerto for Horn and Band - Bert Appermont

Concerto for Horn and Band was written on commission from the horn player Miguel Martinez Megias and the symphonic concert band La Armnica from Buol, Spain. This four-movement work, written to fully explore the capabilities of the hornas a solo voice, is comprised of a dramatic Sarabande, a highly virtuoso Toccata, a wonderful Romance and a Finale that reworks the second movement in a kind of fugue and brings the work to a spectacular close. The basicbuilding block of this concerto, quite fittingly, is the fifth: you only have to think of the post horn or a hunting theme, which conjures up the sound of the perfect fifth. Wonderful new repertoire for a wonderful instrument.

El Golpe Fatal - Dirk Brossé

With the sound of trumpets and a long drum roll Dirk Bross takes you to the splendour of the opening ceremony of a bullfight! The rhythm and the use of South American percussion instruments convey a festive atmosphere whilst broad lines and bright colours describe the solemn nature of this event. The imaginary bull is received with great acclaim with the full band playing. Two contrasting themes represent the heroic matador and the condemned bull. The audience cheers as the bull collapses and strong final chords round off the triumph of the matador. The final quiet notes give a feeling of melancholy reflecting the sad end of this story.

    Miss Saigon - Alain Boublil

Miss Saigon is a thrilling musical by the duo Boublil and Schnberg, that is also responsable for Les Miserables. It is a modern version of Madame Butterfly. The plot tells the sentimental story of a G.I. Chris who falls in love with a beautiful native girl Kim during the Vietnam War. When he realizes that she is pregnant he has to go back home in the States where his wife is waiting for him. In order to allow the father to educate the child, the young woman commits suicide. With his usual orchestration skill, Johan de Meij made a fine sympho-nic portrait, containing some of the most beautiful songs of the musical. You can hear successively: 'Overture - Saigon, April 1975', 'The Movie in my Mind', 'The Morning of the Dragon', 'Please' and 'I still believe'.Download the sound of the helicopter:Helicopter - 01Helicopter - 02Helicopter - 03Helicopter - 04Helicopter - 05
