Khvarena - The City of Light (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Mau, Alga

Khvarenah: The city of light is Alga's second wind orchestra piece. Written in 2015 for a competition held by the Abingdon Concert Band in Oxfordshire, UK, it tries to capture the spirit of 'Khvarenah', an Avestan word for the Zoroastrian concept of 'royal glory' and 'splendour'. It opens with a quiet, steady layering of woodwind and brass, depicting an ancient desert city in the vast lands as the sun emerges from the horizon. We are then taken through the bazaars of the city as the markets are filled with joyful shouting and music and dance before entering the central courtyards, the royal army saluting their newly crowned king, heralding in a new era of glory.

With its southern themes, and up-tempo fun, "Kickin' Up Country" brings country music to your next concert! Three Southern folk-tunes, "Arkansas Traveler," "Cluck Old Hen," and "Cotton-Eyed Joe," are woven into an up-to-date, high steppin' good time for your band. There's even a hoedown spot for the entire band (and your audience!) to "make some noise!" With a high-energy, contemporary country sound, "Kickin' Up Country" features your band at its rollicking best.

Killarney Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

The enchanting town of Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland, has been an inspiration to many artists, saints, and scholars over many centuries. It lies in the heart of the beautiful Killarney National Park, and near Ireland's highest mountains. There are many places of interest to be found in Killarney and the surrounding area such as churches and other historical buildings, as well as a varied landscape with waterfalls, lovely valleys, and gorgeous lakes. The town also has many great restaurants, nice crafts shops and lively pubs where traditional Irish music is often heard. A visit to Killarney inspired Johan Nijs to describe his impressions in this composition. The typical sounds of Irish music echo throughout the work. 0:07:30
