Highland Dawn portrays a sunrise in the Scottish Highlands, where stunning mountain scenery and clear air create a special atmosphere. A faster central section describes the area coming to life as the day begins, using the Scotch 'snaps' which are characteristic of traditional bagpipe music; but the serenity of the opening returns to bring the work to a peaceful close. Highland Fantasy (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fraser, Bruce

This work is mainly based onTraditional Scottish melodies. After a brief introduction we hear "The Wee Cooper o' Fife" played firstly by a solo trumpet followed by a tutti version. "Highland Laddie" appears, initially featuring saxophones and then passed around the band. The slow middle section is an original which I felt complemented the other melodies in the piece. A recapulation leads to a final section with an augmented version of "Highland Laddie" from the middle of the band with a version of "The Wee Cooper" in the upper winds. The work ends with a final majestic statement.

Highland Fling (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jager, Robert

This very playable and appealing overture by Robert Jager is sure to be enjoyable by younger players. Bold and dignified characterize the opening segment which is followed by an energetic faster theme reminiscent of a Scottish Highland dance. A tender hymn-like melody is then developed before returning to the faster theme and powerful closing coda. Very well scored to sound full.

Highland Games Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

Scotland is famed for its rich landscapes and proud heritage. It is also the country that is known for 'housing' the Loch Ness Monster. In celebration of their heritage the Scots annually hold their Highland Games treating audiences to the traditional 'sports' competed by their clan descendents. The Dutch composer Henk Hogestein used the Scottish Highland Games as a source of inspiration for this rugged three-movement work. This energetic concert or festival opener is sure to make your band sparkle! Highlander is full of bright melodies for the woodwinds and trumpets juxtaposed with bagpipe-like drones in the low brass, calling to mind images of old Scotland. Generous use of the piccolo adds to the Scottish flair. A lovely woodwind chorale provides for an interesting contrast in the middle section, only to be interrupted by the exciting main melody which modulates and brings Highlander to a fantastic finish. Highway of Heroes was composed to honour heroism of all kinds, to pay tribute to the brave souls who daily and unselfishly risk their lives and even pay the ultimate sacrifice. With the use of rich textures and dynamic scoring, this work builds to a stirring theme of hope and inner strength. The inspiration for this composition came from the name of a stretch of highway that pays homage to fallen soldiers.Duration: 5.00

HIGHWOOD OVERTURE (Young Band) - Tatgenhorst, John

This exciting overture opens with a fanfare section that emphasizes the brass and is active rhythmically as well as harmonically. A strong, full sound will result from the richly scored chromatic parallel triads.?For musical contrast, the middle section is quasi-rubato and very lyrical, relying mainly on the woodwinds with low brass added later. The transition back to the original rhythmic fanfare is smoothly written and effectively brings the work to a close.
