From Grainger's masterwork for band Lincolnshire Posy, here is the second movement smartly adapted for young level by Michael Sweeney. This edition uses a lower key for range considerations, yet retains all of the charm and beauty of the original. The first movement is structured around a traditionally laid out sonata form, the second movement is tranquil with a long, expressive melody, chromatically coloured whilst the finale takes its cue from the Mozartian horn concerto model, cast in rondo form with a rather jaunty main theme.Duration: 18 minutes

Hornpipe Highlights (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

The Hornpipe is a typical Celtic solo dance, traditionally danced and performed by English sailors. A sound often associated with the Hornpipe is that of the Bodhran, an Irish drum made with a sheep's skin head. John Nijs has taken great care in creating an authentic-sounding Hornpipe in which the Bodhran part is played by the tambourine, but sounds just as good! 02:40
