Hydra Concerto Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

The innovative Spanish composer Ferrer Ferranhas taken Greek mythology as an inspiration forhis concerto for trumpet and concert band. Hydra,the water monster decapitated by Hercules andIolaus, terrorised the area of Lerna, near Argos.The concerto is in three sections which contrastwith each other. The first section is rhythmical andtriumphant, the second is calm and melodious andthe last part provides an aggressive ending. Awelcome addition to the repertoire for solo trumpetand concert band. 15:15

Edvard Hagerup Grieg (1843-1907) is the most important, national-romantic composer from Norway. He is also the most famous Norwegian composer abroad. He composed the stage music for "Sigurd Jorsalfar" in 1872. He edited three of the movements from "Sigurd Jorsalfar" in 1892 and published the as "Sigurd Jorsalfar Suite" in 1892. This arrangement of the famous Homage March-movement feature the opening theme and the closing sequence a bit simplified. A very fine piece to focus on sound development, phrasing, balance and dynamics. Duration: 3.15

Hymn at Twilight (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

Although specifically describing the uncertainty of approaching night and an evening prayer, Hymn at Twilight is actually about the human emotions of doubt, insecurity, hope and resolve. This solemn piece opens quietly and introduces a recurring four-note rising figure. Optimism, anxiety and resignation alternate, with the flute taking centre stage. Brass and woodwind take up the chorale. The piece ends in a mood of sanguine optimism.Duration: 9.30

A gorgeous treatment of "Jesus Loves Me" by James Swearingen that overflows with sensitivity. Includes a brief unaccompanied Flute solo. The lush harmonies start simply and build to a big finish providing an exceptional medium for teaching your band the art of legato playing. Not too difficult, but very, very nice! Will be the highlight of any concert program!

This composition was inspired by the life of the German cavalry general Hans Michael Elias von Obentraut (1574-1625). The heroism of the illustrious general is expressed in a majestic hymn. Hymn for a Hero can serve as a separate work but, if desired, it can also be integrated in the four-movement composition A Hero's Tale. Concretely, this means that this flex version, following the opening fanfare, can be played along with the first movement (bars 9-52). Thus, a youth or beginner band can make music and perform together with a band of adults or advanced players.Duration: 2.45
