Robert W. Smith, in tribute to the great composer, has crafted a setting for the concert band of Wassail Song in the style of Vaughan Williams. Beginning with a lively solo statement of the melody, the clarinet choir introduces the song in its original form. Using Vaughan Williams as the inspiration, the melody is explored and restated in multiple variations using the various timbral colours of the concert band. Wassail Dances (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Lane, Philip - Noble, Paul

The three dances are based on the traditional wassail songs of, respectively, Somerset, Yorkshire and Gloucestershire. These dances were commissioned and first performed by the Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra in 1973. Subsequently they received their first broadcast performance on BBC Radio 3 in 1985 by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Whew, that was close! Watch Out! by composer Brian Beck is a musical obstacle course for the entire band. This gauntlet challenges every player in the ensemble to a battle of "who performed it best?" by allowing every instrument an opportunity to play both the melody as well as the accompaniment throughout the piece. What was in the lower voice is now in the upper sections and vice versa. There is no better way to teach and assess style, dynamics, phrasing, articulation, and accidentals than having everyone play identical phrases but in difference places. Duration: 2.15

Watch Your Step (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

Watch Your Step! was commissioned by Stadtmusik Biel from Switzerland and is dedicated to the mayor of Biel/Bienne, Erich Fehr. The title was chosen to represent Biel as the watch-making capital of Switzerland. Watch Your Step! is one part of a series of 'up tempo' Sparke marches such as Slipstream, The Bandwagon and Jubiloso. After a bright opening, a syncopated first theme is played, firstly by clarinets and saxophones, and then by the full band. A 'bass strain' is followed by a contrasting second subject, which is played twice. The bass melody returns to herald a truncated version of the main theme, before the opening fanfare reappears as a coda.Duration: 4.30
